Default Carmine Infantino the Comic Book Legend is Dead

Carmine Infantino

Comic Great, Carmine Infantino, has passed away at the age of 87. He was DC Comics Editorial Director then Publisher from 1967 to 1976. He is also considered one of the greatest comic artists of all-time, especially in regards to The Flash.

Carmine was DC Comics Stan Lee & John Romita Sr. rolled up into one man! He was to DC of the 60s & 70s what Jim Lee is to the nuDC52.

Batman and Robin by Carmine Infantino

Carmine was also known as a great Batman artist! In fact, he designed Batgirl's costume!

Mego Joker Box Art by Carmine Infantino

Much like Marvel's John Romita Sr., Carmine Infantino's art adorned much of DC Comic's merchandise. These Mego action figure boxes are where I first encountered Carmine Infantino's work, though I had no idea who he was at the time. Megos are perhaps one of my fondest childhood memories & Carmine was a big part of that!

The Incredible Hulk by Carmine Infantino

Much like my reaction to 1970s Jack Kirby art, I just didn't "get" Carmine Infantino as a kid. I easily recall him pencilling a fill-in issue of The Incredible Hulk wherein the Hulk battled "IT" the Living Colossus. I was used to Sal Buscema's art & Carmine's came off as "angular" & weird to me. I remember feeling like I got ripped off that month! Ha!

Of course, years later, as an adult, I totally get what Carmine was all about & now cherish his art.

Sad news indeed. I never read Flash growing up, but I enjoyed his work on Nova and Spider-Woman during my youth. As an adult collecting back issues, I came to know and love his work on Batman. A true great.

RIP, Kirk (aka Ace). You will be missed, brother.

Really sad news. He and Gil Kane are probably my favorite comic artists and Mr. Infantino has been an incredible influence in my life artistically for so many years now. Haven't felt this sad since Frank Frazetta left us.

The first sci-fi comic I ever picked up contained a Infantino illustrated Adam Strange story in it. Spectacular art work.

RIP Mr. Infantino.

Pretty sure he got me with Adam Strange too. Strange and Space Ranger were the 2 DC characters that preceded my explosion of interest in superheroes when I was a kid.
I'm glad we still have a few of the greats from that time, like Murphy Anderson, still with us after so many have passed already.

Another GREAT artist passes beyond the veil. Very sad.
I came to appreciate Carmine's work on The Flash (my favorite character at the time) while growing up in the 1970's.
He contributed much to comics and will be missed.

It's great to read all these nice stories about Carmine! I saw him at his table ay NYCC once, but we were in a rush, so I never stopped by. I regret that. Remember kids, the "HOT" artists will be around for awhile. If you get a chance to meet a legend, do yourself a favor & make the time.

I had that Infantino Batman pin-up you're using for your avatar hanging above my bed for years when I was a kid.
