Another year another MegaCon. Sometimes it almost feels that way, but mine was outstanding! I had nothing but positive experiences with all of the artists I met and was able to accomplish nearly all of my goals (after stretching my budget a bit).
First up from Scott Blair I got this wonderful piece inspired by the animated film that everyone keeps talking about. My wife was super excited about it.
Impulse by Jeremy Dale
He and his wife were both super nice.
Gene Gonzales delivered a beautiful Thundra
Isis by Mike Mayhew
Saint Walker by Rob Hunter
Iron Fist by Dekal aka Jeff Becker
A very Gil Kane looking Mar-Vell by Mike Perkins
Snowbird by Michael Dooney
Vision by Bart Sears
A watercolor Alan Scott, Green Lantern by Mike S. Miller
Darwyn Cooke
A Leonard Kirk convention sketch I picked up cheap on eBay that I had colored by Laura Martin
Orion by Jim Cheung
Maestro by David Finch
The pose will be instantly recognizable to those familiar with the Bowen statue, which was one of the reference shots. Totally worth the 3 plus hours of standing in line.
A watercolor Beta Ray Bill by Mike McKone that I've coveted since seeing it online some time ago.
Spider-Man and foes by Greg Land
I felt pretty lucky to get this one and my brother got a similar Star Wars slave girl Leia piece from him also.
Wow! I've never done the con thing, so I am unfamilair with how this all works. So you stand in line and what? You tell them what they want and they bang it right there in front of you? If so - that is some monsterous talent/skill.
Love all the pieces you scored, but that Captain Marvel is something else!
Whd, How much did Mayhew and Cooke charge for the sketches?
Mayhew was asking $40. Cooke charges $400 for head and shoulders with tones, but the one I got isn't a typical example. It ended up being a special case of him being pressed for time.

Some I contacted ahead of time and the rest are pretty much the way you describe it. I usually plan out what I might ask for and bring along reference. Even if they've drawn the character before reference never hurts.
Thanks whd. Anything more than a head sketch is a bonus in the type of sketches I collect. I'll go for a Mayhew sketch the next time he is at a local show.
