I feel the same about Kevin Maguire's work. I know it's different but I have always liked it....

well having the day off I did some more reading today

First book was the collected edition of the FEAR ITSELF mini-series. I thought it was average at best. The storyline was not bad but it almost should have been a storyline in either Thor or the Avengers. The writing was average and for some reason the Stuart Immonen artwork did not seem to be up to his usual standards.

The 2nd book was FEAR ITSELF-THE FEARLESS. I was not expecting much after Fear Itself but it was very good. The basic storyline involved a task the Odin gave Valkyrie to perform. We learn a lot more of her backstory and it does give casual references to her time in the Defenders and Secret Avengers. In my opinion, this book far surpassed the Fear Itself mini series 10 times over and is definitely worth a read. And there is good artwork from Paul Pelletier and Mark Bagley.

Hoping for a Phase 6 with FS Statues of the following

Nighthawk
Mockingbird
Moondragon
Mantis
The Red Guardian (The Defenders member-this one is a longshot)
and a REALLY GOOD Phoenix Museum Pose statue

I'll have to pick up a copy of The Fearless.

I'm currently reading Brubaker's Velvet. It's a spy tale. Very James Bond'esque. I'm liking it so far.

Robert Kirkman's Thief of Thieves first TPB was very good if you are into heist stories with interesting twists (same author wrote The Walking Dead and Outcast).

I keep putting off Fear Itself. I want to read it but I would like to see the omnibus come out. Looking forward to my Prelude to War of Kings.

I didn't care for Fear Itself either. Felt very mediocre and didn't even feel like an "event".

Recently finished Preacher and was very pleased with it. Also started Velvet and I'm liking it too. The art is gorgeous.

Received my Prelude to War of Kings. I think it's time I started reading my cosmic stuff even though I don't have Annihilation. Or maybe I should hold off until next year with hopes they will finally reprint it.

I thought Velvet was great. Someone here recommended it, can't remember who it was...

With my collection room renovation, I've had to move things around to do some work, which gave me an opportunity to redo some of my book shelves. I only have three, so all of the DC stuff has been removed and now there are two for Marvel and one for Independent. Once the room is done there will be new and more shelves for all of my hardcovers which is nearly larger than my actual comics collection now. Not shown is the Alpha Flight by John Byrne Omnibus which I'm reading now.

I'm coveting that Captain Britain omnibus, BZ. I just made room for a non DC/Marvel shelf as well. It's pretty puny right now but I'll build it up a little this summer. My Marvel omnibus collection will explode this Fall with so many Thor and Punisher volumes coming out, not to mention another Cap omnibus in December.

Sounds like we are getting the same Omnibus later this year. I'll be picking up Amazing Spider-Man V3, Simonson Thor, Thor V3, Waid/Garney Captain America, Shang-Chi V4, Planet Hulk Omnibus, and possibly the X-Men Classic one. And that's just the ones that have been announced.

I recommend to everyone to look at Image stuff, especially ones from Brubaker or from Remender. It took me awhile to break away from superheroes but there's some really good stuff out there.

I have just ordered Brubaker Daredevil volume 1 and 2 omnibus, Frank Miller Daredevil omnibus and companion, Frank Miller Spider-Man Omnibus, and Spider-Man clone saga omnibus 1 all from instocktrades. I'll have some serious reading to do this summer.

I think I may be looking forward to the clone saga the most. It was a great read back in the day and I missed out on quite a few comics in the run and then never finished it. Fingers crossed they complete the run in omnibus format. I didn't want to buy all those paperback volumes to complete the run.

I recently re read Millers Dark Knight and was compelled to get his marvel works. Hope daredevil and Spider-Man are as well done.

Anyone else have any opinion on any of these titles I've picked up? I bought the brubaker Daredevil because I loved his writing on captain America.

I don't think you can ever go wrong with Brubaker. The least interesting of his stuff, for me, has been the Gotham PD stuff and that is still pretty fair. I would have ordered the DD omnibus and companion if I didn't need the coin for my Deathstroke statue. As far as books go, I will be focusing on more sci-fI and horror related items for a little bit.

I think you will be pleased with Brubaker's DD run, although you might need to read a summary of what happened in Bendis' run if you don't already know.

Miller's DD is very good, his Spider-Man wasn't anything memorable.

I'm currently in the middle of the Alpha Flight omnibus, which is my first time ever reading this material.

Looking forward to buying Amazing Spider-Man V3 omnibus next week.

Sweet! I actually started my Daredevil reading on Bendis's run so this will be perfect.

I really like Brubaker, at least on his cap run so I don't think I'll be disappointed.

And correction to my previous post. I have a McFarlane Spider-Man omnibus on the way. Hope that's good. I have a miller complete Spider-Man kicking around somewhere I haven't read yet.

Unfortunately I buy oversized hardcovers and omnibus when they are good prices and strike my fancy and many don't get read. Not for lack of interest, but for lack of time. I have 4 kids and a full time job and maybe read one book/chapter and hit the hay. I will say I've read all my x men omnibus. Love x men.

How is Alpha Flight so far? I thought about picking that up st some point.

Yeah, the Prime 1 version. He's insanely detailed. As for horror/sci-fi, I need the latest two volumes of Black Science and Divinity II. There is a ton of horror stuff I want: Harrow County, Locke and Key, Walking Dead compendium 3, October Faction, Solomon Kane, Lobster Johnson and maybe some Vault of Horror archives.

Those McFarlane stories unfortunately are not that memorable, but he was at the top of his game with drawing Spider-Man. I'm considering getting it just for the pictures.

Alpha Flight isn't bad, the character's have some depth and there's mostly interpersonal drama right now at about 50% of the way through. The art isn't quite as good as his FF run though.

I read Byrne's Alpha Flight back when it first came out in the 80's I do remember enjoying it.
It was very different for a team book in that the team really had few adventures together and they were more solo stories or stories that only had 2 of the members in it at a time. It was a very different type of team book at the time that either Marvel or DC was producing. If I could find this omnibus at a good price I would be tempted to get it.

I did continue to purchase the book after John Byrne left when Bill Mantlo took over and remember enjoying it quite a bit. Hopefully we will see his run reprinted soon as well.

Still working on Sandman... I'm just over the half way mark of vol. 2 so that is about 1700 pages down. It really is brilliant. However I'm looking forward to reading something a little lighter next. Not in physical weight but emotional lol

Hey Jonesy, do either of the Sandman Omnibus contain either of the Death mini series or the two Sandman Graphic novels? If they do not they are definitely worth tracking down.
