Default The Phantom Unproduced Aurora Kit

Wanted to throw up a quick pic of this resin kit I picked up on eBay. It's supposedly molded from a kit Aurora planned, but never put into production. There's supposed to be a sign below the skull that says "deep woods - keep out". Unfortunately my cat Jet decided it made a good toy and stole it off my workbench one night. He batted it somewhere inaccessable, but I know it's around here somewhere.
It took me almost 2 years before I found the steering wheel for the Green Hornet's Black Beauty that he absconded with.

AMAZING! I can't believe this was never produced! The Phantom was my Dad's favorite hero. He's the guy that bought and helped me build Aurora kits when I was a little kid. He would have LOVED this! I hope BIG Phantom fan, jwapd sees this!

It really does have the style and "feel" of an old Aurora kit as you're building it. Well, except for all the puttying, sanding and pinning of parts that is. When I was a kid the only Phantom model available was the "Phantom & the Witch Doctor" kit made by Revell and it was very plain and "museum" style. I think this was going to be Aurora's answer to that kit. It's a shame it was never produced.
Randy's mini-bust of The Phantom served as a great paint color guide as I was building it.

That's incredible Wayne!

I'm going to have to try to hunt one down on EBay myself. I'm still trying to find the Electric Tiki Phantom statue at a reasonable price.

Thanks guys!

Good luck finding the Electric Tiki Phantom, John. I can't even remember the last time I saw one of those up for auction, but it was a long time ago!

I think I got this from MojoResin. They offer it on eBay pretty regularly.

I know there is a company out of Brazil, I believe, that throws custom Phantom statues on EBay here and there, but their prices are way too goofy for my tastes. My Phantom grail is the Tiki statue.

I had a 12" (I think) Phantom doll as a kid in the 70s. Anyone know who made it?

Wow, that really reminds me of the Captain Action Phantom costume.
When I was a kid Captain Action was the coolest thing around, but none of us dared to buy it or any of the costumes for fear of being called a sissy who played with dolls. If we only knew then how scarce some of them would become!

I'm not too impressed by those either. Especially the "red" Phantom versions. I guess The Phantom is really popular in Brazil, but a lot of the strips were printed haphazardly and his tights were red instead of purple.

Just added a picture of it to my post. There wasn't a whole heck of a lot of Phantom merchandise around then, so it probably was.

Did GI Joe produce a 12" in the 70s?

Don't think so. I get nothing doing a web search for it.

I just noticed that the stripes on the Captain Action costume's briefs are going in the wrong direction...lol.

I've seen this for sale recently...It's on one of my saved sites...I'll see if I can locate it...There's also one of him sitting on a throne and on horseback...
