Default What DC Universe Animated Movies have you seen and/or own?

Have you seen any of the DC Universe Animated Movies? If so, which ones did you like/dislike and why? Did you purchase any?

This is not referring to the "Timmverse" TV shows, but the direct to video stand alone movies.

Here's a list:
Superman: Doomsday (September 2007)
Justice League: The New Frontier (February 2008)
Batman: Gotham Knight (July 2008)
Wonder Woman (March 2009)
Green Lantern: First Flight (July 2009)
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (September 2009)
Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths (February 2010)
Batman: Under the Red Hood (July 2010)
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse (September 2010)
All-Star Superman (February 2011)
Green Lantern: Emerald Knights (June 2011)
Batman: Year One (October 2011)
Justice League: Doom (February 2012)
Superman vs. The Elite (June 2012)
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 (October 2012)
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 (January 2013)
Superman: Unbound (May 2013)
Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (July 2013)
Justice League: War (February 2014)
Son of Batman (May 2014)
Batman: Assault on Arkham (August 2014)
Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (January 2015)

If I own any, that means I really liked them, and they are:
Dark Knight Returns
Under the Red Hood (I highly recommend)
Year One (will be purchasing soon)

I've seen just about everything before DKR. After DKR I've only seen Flashpoint, Son of Batman (which had some crazy fight scenes but no heart to it) and Killing Joke. Wonder Woman and Green Lantern were very boring to me.

Under the Red Hood is the only one I own and easily my favorite. Flashpoint and DKR definitely had some some good moments too.

I own the following

Justice League-New Frontier
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern First Flight
Justice League-Crisis on Two Earths (my favorite out of all the ones I own)
Superman/Shazam-The Return of Black Adam (this also has some of the DC Animated Shorts that were included in some of the DVDs)

Looking at that list, I am behind in my Animated Movie watching as well

BTW, did anyone else see that DC is putting out a boxed set off all of their animated movies on Blue Ray? It was quite a list of films that will be included but no price was given.

Hoping for a Phase 6 with FS Statues of the following

  • Moondragon
  • Mantis
  • Wonder Man (in the Perez Designed costume)
  • Havok (need a new one in his classic costume because the existing one is too expensive on Ebay)
  • The Red Guardian (The Defenders member-this one is a longshot)
  • and a REALLY GOOD Phoenix Museum pose

Like sash, I felt most of them have been "meh" and so average that I too can't even remember if I saw them.

mmk, I saw something like that but the one I saw was a handful of movies and a handful of graphic novels.

Supposedly Teen Titans: Judas Contract is coming out this year, but I don't see how that will have that much of an impact on the average viewer because they haven't spent all that much time with the characters.

The next movie is going to be based on the first DC Elseworlds story Batman: Gotham by Gaslight (where a 19th century Bruce Wayne hunts for Jack the Ripper.)

Gotham by Gaslight should be a live action movie. If done right that could be epic. Easily one of my favorite Bat stories. I forgot about The Return of Black Adam. It was great seeing BA slap Supes around.

I had completely forgotten about Gotham by Gaslight and realized I never read it. Hopefully they'll come out with a Deluxe Hardcover and I'll pick it up.

I really hope they try to do the animation in Mignola's style. He's one of my favorite artists. Just rewatched The Prestige by Chris Nolan, love that movie, really put me in a mood for a period piece.

Batman: The Animated Series sort of ruined me for most of today's stuff. I can't watch any DC animated movies without comparing them to it and they rarely measure up. So much of this new stuff seems rushed and lacking in atmosphere compared to B:TAS.
I SHOULD be a huge Green Lantern animated fan, but I haven't seen anything yet that's grabbed me. Every one I've tried has been too 2-dimentional and too lacking in detail and character development to get into fully.
I recently saw Batman: The Killing Joke and thought it was the best one I've seen in a while, but I really expected more from the hype.
The absolute best DC animated movie I've ever seen was Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. That one seemed to rise way above the subject matter and was so well written it was probably the best Batman movie I've ever seen, animated or otherwise.
I dunno, I guess I'm just a lost cause when it comes to animated superheroes.

I think they'll try. A few of the movies have a slightly different art style to try and match the original artist.

I too love The Prestige and think it is very underrated. I'm also a fan of Tesla and Bowie did an awesome job. Very cool to tie Tesla into it.

Wayne, I love the BTAS (and the rest of the Timmverse) too and agree most DC (and any animated stuff) just doesn't compare. As you said, a lot of it is either just action, or they are counting on the viewer having the background of reading the comics to fill in the characterization. I think you won't be disappointed though with Under the Red Hood. It's just a shame they didn't use the cast of the original series.

Seen Under The Red Hood, really enjoyed it. Son of Batman I've seen too, and one that has Nightwing in, but I don't remember what it was called...

I either own, or have these recorded from DVD on a hard drive:

Superman: Doomsday (September 2007)
Justice League: The New Frontier (February 2008)
Batman: Gotham Knight (July 2008)
Wonder Woman (March 2009)
Green Lantern: First Flight (July 2009)
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (September 2009)
Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths (February 2010)
Batman: Under the Red Hood (July 2010)
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse (September 2010)
All-Star Superman (February 2011)
Green Lantern: Emerald Knights (June 2011)
Batman: Year One (October 2011)
Justice League: Doom (February 2012)
Superman vs. The Elite (June 2012)
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 (October 2012)
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 (January 2013)
Superman: Unbound (May 2013)
Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (July 2013)
Justice League: War (February 2014)
Son of Batman (May 2014)
Batman: Assault on Arkham (August 2014)
Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (January 2015)
Batman vs. Robin (April 2015)
Justice League: Gods and Monsters (July 2015)
Batman: Bad Blood (January 2016)
Justice League vs. Teen Titans (March 2016)
Batman: The Killing Joke (July 2016)
Justice League Dark (January 2017)

Wow - I guess I have them all...?!

Of these, I really did not like Superman vs. the Elite. The animation, to me, was insulting.

Batman: TAS started when I first worked at the WBSS Store...for me, that really set the bar for DC Animation.

I do like the Young Justice series, as well as Superman: TAS. The Green Lantern Animated series was okay - thought it was going somewhere and definitely too short of a run.
