Tates was started by a young kid (Tate); I think he was 12 or 13. He didn't have a comic book store near him, so he begged his dad repeatedly and finally his dad rented him a small store front. Every day after school he would go and open it up for a few hours. It grew and grew and became what it is today. Short story but a good one.

I'm not sure where the award originates from, (maybe wondercon) but Tates also won the best comic book store in the world award about 4 years ago.

finally off work. To answer your question, yes I'm 20 minutes away from Tates and as a UPS guy I actually deliver to tates house from time to time. LOL. However, Sash501, I didn't know the backstory on Tate's at all.
