My Herring and Robinson custom binding order came in today.

I have other binds in the wings but I suspect these are bound (pun intended) to be my pride and joy. I went with some of the bells and whistles since it's my favorite character.

Seven volumes of Captain America with every issue, including all annuals and mini-series, from number 281 thru the end of series one with issue 454. For the annuals there were several that were part of a three or four part story told with annuals from other characters or teams. I included those other annuals so the whole story would be here. The incomplete things story wise are the X-Man event Fall of the Mutants that had one Captain America issue and the Avengers event Galactic Storm. Each of those events were far from Cap centered so I didn't feel the need to collect a bunch of non-Cap issues to include here. The better pictures didn't capture the colors as well. This next picture should have more real to life colors but the flash/glare didn't work well to show the detail.

Gutter loss check:

Not bad (another volume):

I went with the half bind. The red and blue fit the character.

The blue is imitation textured leather made of cotton fibers. It's not a plastic pleather and it's supposed to be pretty durable. I love the way it looks. The red is Red Flare Arrestox.

Nice, those look good enough to achieve family heirloom status.

Thanks guys. I'm very happy with how they turned out. I'll be reading thru them this winter. I filled in some gaps so there is some content I've never read. Should be a great time.

I'd love to see some other folks here dip their feet in the custom binding pool. So many options out there.

Was thinking this weekend about what series to bind:

Excalibur is still something I'd consider binding, but where to stop would be the question. The safe bet would be to go up to about 34 when Claremont left but I do have issues past that.

Another series I thought of was JMS' Amazing Spider-Man run. It gets a little tricky when you get close to Civil War and there was at least one story (The Other) that involved other titles. Total issues would probably bring you to at least two volumes if not three. I looked through my boxes though and I don't quite have all of his issues.

I love the way your Cap bindings came out so I'm still thinking about it...

Both those ideas sound like winners BZ. I'd love to read the Claremont run on Excaliber. I like what I read by him on the X-Men so I bet I would like Excaliber too.

Two new custom books came in today. The Winter Soldier contains all of his run after Brubaker's (collected in omnibus format). Latour finished the run Brubaker started (issues 15 thru 19). Then Remender did a mini-series (5 issues), and finally the Kot run that ended last fall (11 issues) and contained some very nice Marco Rudy art.

The Daredevil picks up right after Brubaker left DD and Diggle took over. It has the entire Shadowlands event along with the complete Diggle run. It includes my first custom Table of Contents.

I like the colors you chose for WS and nice job on the TOC. I guess you created it, printed it out and just placed it in with the rest of the books?

Thanks! I'm really pleased with these. The materials are the silver arrestox and Red Flare arrestox. I did exactly as described with the TOC.

I've been waiting years (since the release of the last Brubaker DD omnibus) to read Diggle's run on DD.

I bound the rest of Mat Fraction's run on Ironman since Marvel did two OHCs and then gave up.

I also bound the tail end of Captain America vol 5. Here is the Table of Contents:

Same here! Finishing off the Fraction Iron Man is an excellent idea.

Why are Cap volumes 5 and 7 taller than 4? And what will be in V6?

I can't decide if I like the faux leather cover or the other one better.

How did you do the table of contents? Were those pages torn from TPB's and you typed on them?

Thanks! Good question, two reasons the books are different heights. The older books were slightly shorter and because there were some slightly different height prints in volume one I asked they be trimmed so they would all be the same. Plus it got rid of ragged edges. I didn't have those issues with the newer issues and elected not to have them trimmed.

There is a volume six, but I will not be binding it as it is contained in Brubaker's omnibus. Brubaker did the renumbered series and the issues in Five were by other authors including mini-series by other authors while Brubaker was writing Cap. Captain America Patriot was one of my favorites based on some really nice art. A new re-numbering took place with Remender taking over and beginning his run. Not sure if the new series is volume 8 or not (it probably is).

I just did a Google image search for Captain America Black and White and put copied the image into a Word doc and then typed over it. I experimented with making the image a watermark to fade it into the background more (I think it worked for one and not the other). I printed on a heavy paper and then sent with the bind. The binder cut it down and put it in the book at no extra charge.

I have three more custom binds coming. The worst part in waiting for me is always when I find out they are done, I pay, and they get sent. Up to that point it's easy to just think it's going to be way off in the future when they get done. But once you know the binding is complete then I start to get impatient.

I'll post pictures when they get here (probably end of the week).

Exciting!

I'm getting closer and closer to binding my first set. It will probably be JMS' Spider-Man run, although I'm missing a few issues.

I've considered binding Excalibur (the Claremont/Davis run) and maybe in the long running Wolverine series. Excalibur I have a feeling will be put into an omnibus in a year or two though.

The main reason I want to bind is to reduce the number of comic boxes I have.

I showed pics before of the Abnett and Lanning Nova bind. I went ahead and bound over 30 issues of the next run started off by Jeff Loeb. I'll read this soon, I don't expect it to be as good as the Abnett and Lanning run.

I also bound the Angela books out so far and the Cullen Bunn Magneto run that got some decent reviews.

Can you send the Magneto to me so I can read it?

Every time I see your pics it's an extra nudge to get me moving on mine. I'll be peppering you with questions when I reach that point.

My next planned binds are going to be DC's Red Lanterns and then a bind of the Green Lantern Corps.

I've been thinking about doing these two binds for some time as both runs have had good word of mouth and I really enjoyed Johns' main run on Green Lantern that was happening at the same time.

From Marvel, I found a really good deal on these issues and an using modified binding plan from a user named Corwin on the MarvelMasterworks fan site (as follows):

I still need to pick up some of the mini-series for the last bind. Hopefully the content doesn't suck. I do like Lemire and he wrote Extraordinary X-Men and he's been killing it on Old Man Logan (eventually I'll bind that absent a Marvel omnibus) and Thanos.

It is still possible some of this content will get an OHC or omnibus (the 7 issue IVX story is going to be in OHC in July) but Uncanny Inhumans coming out at the same time as all three of the X-series here already has one OHC with the second solicited so it isn't looking great for this content plus, it's highly unlikely Marvel will actually put all this content in proper order like it is here.

Edit: After cutting off the back covers and extra adverts the bind sizes are looking smaller than expected. I am seriously considering splitting the content into two binds instead of three. I'll wait to decide until I have all the rest of the issues in hand so I can size them up.

Edit 2 (Reminder to self for my Red Lanterns bind):

27-29 - Red Lanterns #25-27
35-38 - Supergirl #26-29
40-41 - Red Lanterns #28-29
42 - Supergirl #30
43 - Red Lanterns #30
44 - Supergirl #31
45-46 - Red Lanterns #31-32
47-48 - Supergirl #32-33
49 - Red Lanterns #33
50 - Red Lanterns Annual #1
51 - Red Lanterns #33
