Default Jason Smith

Hey guys, just wanted to get my page up. A little about me: I attended the University of Oregon where I studied fine art and graphic design. After that I was a freelance illustrator for awhile, then got a job in the video game industry about 12 years ago. I'm currently the lead character artist on Sony's DC Universe Online for which I modeled dozens of iconic DC characters, including Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Last year I did a bunch of work for Randy, but so far this year my work schedule has been so busy I haven't found the time to get much statue work done unfortunately. Here's a bunch of my stuff:

You do the most amazing work. I've been admiring my Gladiator and Havok since I got them. They are both perfect! I'm getting Psylocke on Tuesday which I look forward to admiring! I hope you get some time in the near future to do some more work for Bowen. Maybe you can make the FS Bishop.

Is this yours, Jason?

That would explain why I do a double-take every time I see it. It's the nicest Batman I've seen in quite a while. It would also explain why I like the style of this line so much. I'm a huge Hal Jordan fan too, so now I'm doubly excited about getting the DC Universe Green Lantern if you're the sculptor.

I got on Bowen's wait list for my Modern Black Panther and when I got it I was so impressed I bought the Classic BP too. Your Mystique is phenomenal and one of the most anticipated statues I have on order. Great to see you starting your own thread on SM and thanks for those pics.

TrueFaith, the Batman statue is based off the game model that I did, but I did not work on that statue...the only one that's 100% mine is wonder woman even though the base models they use for most of that line are mine I don't claim credit. I did however sculpt a new Batman statue as a launch gift for the DCUO team that I can't show right now, but I think it's pretty cool. I'll post it when I'm able to.

What's the story with that Wonder Woman statue? I've never cared much for the character, but your statue is beautiful! Her face is great...heck!...everything on her is!

Thanks for the info and I agree completely with Al that your Wonder Woman is outstanding and will probably become the one WW statue ever to grace my collection. Looking forward to seeing your Batman when you're able to post it too.
You seem to have embraced digital sculpting a bit more than some of BDs sculptors and your prowess with the software certainly shows in your sculpts. The marriage of your classic training with these new techniques is making for some increadible figures as of late. More than other sculptors you seem to have an intrinsic instinct for the heroic and iconic pose and it serves your digital work well. I am really lookming forward to your next BD project, but please keep us up to date on your projects for other manufacturers as well. This thread is long overdue considering the huge contributions you've made to all of our statue collections.

Hey Jason. What program do you use to color your digital models, is it Photoshop?

No, you can paint right on the models in Zbrush.
