Default Earl Norem has died

This is an incredible coincidence. I've been trying to come up with some unusual artwork for my statue room, and I remembered the covers of a couple of small paperbacks I've had for 30 years.
So I scanned one - this one always impressed me; in the days of four-color separation this was a revelation.

Well, I noticed the signature "Norem", and was ignorant of who he was. So I looked him up.
Wouldn't you know he died TODAY.

You may remember this cover. I sure do.

You can see some of his awesome Conan work here:

Earl Norem Conan Gallery

Having reviewed it, it seems to me that he was second only to Frazetta in forming the popular conception of what Conan should look like.

RIP, Norem. Sorry I was late.

Dictated on my iPad. My iPad can't spell for sh!t.

It's a shame more folks don't know who he is, but then this forum is more of a comic book fan site. I was into Conan before I ever got into superheroes and Savage Sword of Conan was the bee's knees as far as the younger me was concerned.

He will be missed.

RIP, Kirk (aka Ace). You will be missed, brother.

Eerie timing, wrlord. Thanks for sharing the news. I've seen much of Norem's work without knowing who he was. An amazing artist whose pieces will continue his legacy. RIP.
