Default Commercial Display Cases

I'm new to statue collecting. However, I have many other collecting interests and have been forming other collections for years. I have been looking for display cases for a couple of years, but never pulled the trigger. Now, with the statues, a couple of good cases seem necessary.

So, I have done lots of looking. I have surfed craigslist frequently, looked online quite a bit, etc. I have never pulled the trigger. I also have had my fair share of particle board veneered type shelving and am ready to move on. So, have any of you purchased new "commercial" quality display cases and been happy with them? Where from and what have you bought?

What I'm looking for are cases that are maybe 6.5 to 7 feet tall, probably about 4 feet wide, mostly glass, metal frame, possibly storage underneath where the first shelf section would be, they have to be able to hold the weight of these statues, front loading, and some kind of cool lighting. Should I look for LEDs? Who makes cases like these? I have looked and I know they can get very expensive. I would like to keep in the $800-$1500 per case price if possible.

So what are your thoughts and experiences?

Welcome to SM!!
Do you intend to display them in teams or displaying them in duo / with comic book. That would make a difference.

I probably will display a few with comic books, but mostly stand-alone or in groups. So, I think wide open shelves would be best. That would give me the most flexibility.

I think you are right in that you will have to look for "commercial" shelving. I've never seen anything that has all of what you are looking for on the regular consumer market.

Have you looked online or brick and mortar stores that sell commercial furniture and store fixtures? I've seen some of those places around. I would also keep an eye out for any stores that are closing and take a look at what they have to sell.

Also, think about expansion, both within the cabinet you purchase as well as the room you will be using. This hobby tends to make people expand their collection fairly quickly.

Please post when you find something and welcome to SM!
