Default Godzilla lawsuit

Battle of the giant lizards: Toho sues over Anne Hathaway's rival 'Godzilla' movie | Film | The Guardian

Quote:
The complaint reads: “Toho is informed and believes, and based thereon alleges, that Defendants have knowingly used the Godzilla Character to attract interest and attention in their Colossal project so that it would stand out in a crowded field of competitors on the film sales circuit.”

Toho is suing for copyright and trademark infringements, trademark dilution, unfair competition and unjust enrichment. The company asks for Voltage to be prohibited from producing Colossal and claims unspecified damages.

The plot to the other movie is so opposite of where the characterization of Godzilla is based...it's almost laughable...but, understand how they would want to refrain the other company from leveraging an icon like Godzilla for "profit".

If "Pacific Rim" can go about and be successful with Kaiju....then it's reasonable to assume that the other film company can market theirs without a Gozilla reference...

Man, Pacific Rim was pretty good. Sequel coming soon. Godzilla was so-so.

Godzilla needed more Godzilla and less "no cares about the human story line" humans.

Still need to see Pacific Rim!

Anne Hathaway Monster Movie Colossal Clears Legal Hurdle From Godzilla Owner Toho - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movie, TV News

Quote:
Sold at the Cannes Film Festival as “Godzilla meets Being John Malkovich,” Godzilla owners Toho Co. LTD filed a complaint in California alleging producers Voltage Pictures were “brazenly producing, advertising, and selling an unauthorized Godzilla film of their own” according to The Hollywood Reporter’s legal blog, THR, Esq. The parties settled after Voltage agreed to make it very clear the film is not a Godzilla movie.
Her character does sound like Miki Sagusea fleshed out.
