Custom Superman Batman Diorama by IID Designs

This project has been a long time in the works.
It is my custom diorama based on the Superman/Batman run by Jeph Loeb and Michael Turner. In this tale Darkseid abducts a young Kryptonian by the name of Kara Zor-El and corrupts her. Changing her into one of his Furies. This is my representation of the Fury's first appearance.

The statues used are

Batman: Faux Bronze Daredevil, Miracleman's hands, and Blackcat base. Custom made resin cast cape. Cape and cowl are one removable piece. Left had is also removable for possible additions later. Both are attached via key peg and magnet.

Superman: Thunderbird, a modified Samaritan head & Retro Wasp base. The cape is custom sculpted and cast in resin.

Darkseid: Heavily modified Terrax statue with custom sculpted hands. Custom made cold-cast marble base fits with the Fury's.

Fury: Dagger mini-bust & Jean Grey base with custom sculpted legs. Her cape is custom made with Magic-Sculpt and is held in place by magnets at her hips.

I only have one picture to share right now...Photobucket is giving me fits... but there are many more at my website IIDdesigns.com. This is actually two photos spliced together, but they are pretty close to being true to scale. In time I plan on making a dedicated post for each individual piece.

Thanks for looking!

Once again, gorgeous work!

EDIT: How do you paint "stone"? Like Darkseid's arms and the bases.

And what did you use to create the texture on Darkseid's arms and legs?

Awesome!

They look great. Beautiful job as always. Are you keeping these for your collection?

Thanks! For all my "on statue" areas, I use Magic-Sculpt. Though I am going to explore different media soon. Creating the texture was really quite simple. It was just smeared on! Afterwards I created cracks with a knife, and did some detailing.

Painting used a few techniques, but ultimately, it was pretty simple as well. The look was achieved from several rounds of oil washes and dry brushing atop a preshaded base coat. Same for the base, but I used a speckling technique as well.

Thanks! Sadly, no. But, I would like to keep them as a set if I can find the right buyer.

Magnificent! Inspirational! What finishing coat do you apply to get that professional 'soft-gloss' sheen?

Thank you!
I use Testor's Dull-cote for the finish.

Many thanks. I hope that's a mystery finally solved. I tried all kinds of combinations of Alclad matt,semi-matt, satin, gloss to try and recreate that look. Just bought a Tami' semi gloss and the effect on matt acrylic wasn't too far off.

I also work in several layers, so that may contribute to the effect. Its not just one clear coat at the end, its a handful along the way. The testors also has a way of washing out hi-lites so be aware of that. Best of luck!
