I guess the difference is that the TV show was my real introduction to The Hulk. I knew his name should be Robert Bruce Banner. That annoyed me. I knew that he was invulnerable & things like bullets & fire couldn't hurt him. I also was aware of the Gamma Bomb origin. But...you have to imagine what it was like for an impressionable 10 year old (which I was) to watch this. The music. The darkness. The Shakespearean tragedy of it all! The child-like Hulk. Bill Bixby as Banner with that soothing, kind voice, yet with an edge to him that finally got released as The Incredible Hulk. It was all so fantastic to take in at that age. I can still watch the pilot movie & get goose bumps! That show really forged in my mind who Banner & The Hulk were. The stories & names my have been altered a bit, but the essence is still "my" Hulk. As great as the Avengers movie Hulk was, he ain't as good as this Banner & Hulk.
Sorry.
No problem. Just because we feel totally different about this, doesn't mean that I can't appreciate where you're coming from. The TV Hulk series did have some quality to it, especially early on.
It started to really derail as the series went along, and when they started filming more in the light of day, you could see Ferrigno's little green shoes that he was wearing. Anyway, the made for TV movies towards the very end with Thor and the black garbed Daredevil, took my breath away, (not in a good way). A no prize if you can figure out that reference. Sorry, I digress, so, as I was saying, I did enjoy some of the earlier episodes, and I would agree that the pilot episodes were probably the best ones of the whole series...

Yeah, The "Return" Movies weren't too good, except maybe the final one, "The Death of The Incredible Hulk" which featured Banner getting it on with The Black Widow! Ha! I am very disappointed that Bill Bixby didn't get to finish the movie series as he wanted to with a final film featuring the Hulk captured, Banner put on trial for the woman's death in the pilot, facing McGee finally & being cured. That was the plan until cancer took Bill from us.

You didn't catch my Rex Smith reference. He played the black costumed Daredevil in that horrible Hulk meets Daredevil TV movie, and he sang a terrible song called "You Take My Breath Away" in the late 70's. The lyrics to the song were basically, You take my breath away, over and over and over. Horrific, just like his take on Daredevil. I did like Bill Bixby though. He was one of the best parts of the whole series...
I am definitely going to buy one of these Hulks but have not yet decided which one I will go for. I like the variant a tad bitter but since it is a website exclusive and I am not from the USA, I might might for the regular version after all which I like a lot as well.
