Just got out from the midnight premiere of The Amazing Spiderman! I really enjoyed it! The action sequences were excellent and Spidey's suit worked well on screen. Additionally, Mr. Garfield did a great job as Spiderman--cracking wise at bad guys, portraying the intellectual side of Peter Parker, and capturing the good-heartedness of the character. Stan Lee's cameo is one of the best IMO, too!
By the way, be sure to stay mid-way through the credits for a 'sneak'uel (sneak for a sequel.) lol Unlike the Avengers, I actually found myself scratching my head as to who this new character could be. I'll leave it at that and *when spoilers open* I will enjoy reading thoughts on that particular subject.
So, I have to ask. Did Oliver's new film make you consider decriminalization and legalization of marijuanna as the only sane solution to this insane cartel violence? Or was it just straight-up action with little "message"?
I'm looking forward to seeing it just because it's an Oliver Stone flick, but I know he's hoping that it will make people wake up to what the senseless prohibition of weed is doing to this country and Mexico.

what makes you think weed is any kind of money maker for the cartel. They laugh at that. It's the meth, cocaine, etc. Weed is just a diversion.
Me, I'm very anti-drug. You want to legalize it and make where it can only be smoked certain places. I'm might be fine with that. But, the first time someone lights up in front of me or my family, they won't do it again.
He probably won't make a movie about the real issue what is doing to the border towns and beyond. No one wants to see that. They want to ignore it. But, Texas, New Mexico, etc will keep doing the work to try to the protect the whole nation.

Eh, sorry, for the derail..
Illicit Marijuanna is a 113 Billion dollar industry in the United States alone.
Do you really think the Mexican Cartels would ignore a source of income like that? You don't have to wander the internet too long to find quotes like this:
"Mexican drug lords derive an estimated 60 to 70 percent of their illicit income from pot sales. (By comparison, only about 28 percent of their profits are derived from the distribution of cocaine, and less than 1 percent comes from trafficking methamphetamine.) It is unrealistic to think that cartels could feasibly replace this void by stepping up their sales of cocaine, methamphetamine or heroin—all of which remain far less popular among U.S. drug consumers anyway."
Legalizing pot is one way or reducing the violence, perhaps to manageable levels. Right now the entire "war" on pot has cost the US billions over the years and it's still more popular than ever among teenagers. Something like 57% of the US population favors leagalization and an even higher number favor decriminalization. Even the President of Mexico supports it.
On a personal level, I know several people with Multiple Sclerosis and varying stages of cancer who are helped immensely by this drug. I have also spent time in states where pot is all but legal already and have seen the benefit it is to hundreds of people on a daily basis when it is strictly regulated and controled, but legal.
My apologies also for derailing the thread, but I am still interested to see if Oliver Stone's well-known public support for legalization of marijuanna is obvious in this film or if he's just dishing up another good shoot 'em up.

I would say it was straight-up action with little "message". That being said. I wasn't really looking for a message, so it could have been there.
I just came out of Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. I read the book before hand and can easily say that not a single thing that happened in the book happened in the movie. I'm not exaggerating, NOT A SINGLE THING IS THE SAME. For those who like reading, read the book. Often times it is said that the book is better than the movie. In this instance it is true for a different reason. It is a very different story. 5/10

This is why I love this thread. There's a 9/10 for this movie on the previous page.

Hahahahaha...... I learned long ago to never read a book before a movie. I have been sorely disappointed. Yep, even with the Potter movies esepcially as they progressed.

Savages 8/10
Amazing Spiderman 7.5/10
The difference between potter and this, is what happens in potter books also happens in the movie. This movie literally was nothing like the book. Usually people are disappointed because a movie simply can't fit everything in. Here, again, completely different. For example, the vampire that Abe wants to kill in the movie by the docs, in the book he actually is the first vampire he kills, in front of his dad, without a big fight. He just walks up and puts a hatchet in his chest. This happens late at night in front of Abe's cabin where he lured the vampire there under the guise of paying his dads debt.
I just saw the AMAZING SPIDERMAN. And i think it was ok. Ill give it a 7.5/10 i was falling asleep at first. It was slow. Then saw EMMA STONE, i was up already! Lolz overall acting was great. I dont recommend it watching it on 3D! Not a lot of 3D-ness in the movie.

We will agree to disagree on this, plus what you call differences, and I won't clutter up this thread any further.
In Time - what a great and original concept for a movie. Wish they would have explored the time element more, but I thought this was pretty good. 7 out of 10
