John Carpenter's the Thing (1982) is the greatest movie ever made, any genre. I liked the new one too but it is a prequel, so sequentially you should watch the new one first if you haven't seen either. But if you are only going to watch one just watch the 1982 movie

Yup , that's what sparked the Thing Marathon TK. Goinf to watch the new one, then the original Thing. That piece came out pretty cool. Congrats

Now Wrath of the Titans 5.8/10
Acting wasn't all that great. I enjoyed the first one better.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - While I thought this movie was pretty good, I wished David Fincher kept some of the ambient music out of the scenes because it was hard to hear conversations at times. I thought the story was okay, but not very intriguing. 6 out of 10

A Dangerous Method 8/10

I've loved David Cronenberg as a director since I first saw "Videodrome". As interesting as his directing ability, his choice of subjects for his movies has always been unusual, to say the least. I was pretty excited to see he had a new movie out and when I discovered it was about Sigmund Freud's relationship with Carl Jung and the birth of psychoanalysis it seemed like a perfect vehicle for Cronenberg's eccentricities as a director. and it certainly was.
Rising far above the dryness of the subject, Cronenberg has made a very interesting movie that fully explores the many weaknesses of these two founders of modern psychology, their intense friendship and eventual disdain for each other and each other's methods.
The casting is superb. Viggo Mortensen is perfect as Freud, but I was really surprised how good Michael Fassbender was as Carl Jung. It took me half the movie to realize he was the same guy who I'd last seen as Stelios in Frank Miller's "300". Keira Knightley is the glue that holds the movie together though. As a masochistic patient treated by both men she adds a palpable sexual tension throughout that makes the story much more interesting than it should be. I don't think anyone but Cronenberg could have made this movie, or made it as well. If you're a fan of his this movie is a must.

I forgot to tell you to watch through the credits of the new one (especially if you are watching the 82 version after, because this is one of those movies that puts part of the movie in the credits for some reason.

Cool.

I am going to get the new one as I already have the '82 on Bluray. I hope watching the new one first doesn't ruin the greatness of the old one. For me I liked the new one but I see a ton of people just savage the new one.

Oh well, let me know what you think. They are definitely done differently both in the way they build suspense (much more so in the old one) and how the "thing" is done (no CGI of course in '82).

The Thing Prequel just lacks the suspense and intrigue of the original Thing movie. That's what made that movie so great.

I still liked the prequel but its an entirely different movie.

Well Teddy the prequel was a lot of fun! My wife enjoyed it, and friends that were over last night.

8/10

Now off to find the original, it was sold out when I got there.

There are at least 5 to six movies like this a year. It used to be very rare.

The Raid: Redemption: 9/10. This is one of the best choreographed movies in years. Pure action movie.

Lockout: 5/10. This is one of those you wonder why it wasn't straight to DVD. I have videogames with better motion capture.

The Trouble with Bliss. 6/10.

Cabin in the Woods 3/5

Honestly, this was quite a movie! I honestly still can't decided if it was good, or so bad it was good, or good at being bad... I don't understand. But it was fun/entertaining and I definitely did not see any of it coming.

Green Lantern- 5/10
Loved the OA scenes,
Could have done without the stuff on Earth,
except for Blake Lively, we need more of that.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close 5/10

We Bought a Zoo 3/10

Really predicitable, absolute zero interesting in it

John Carpenter's The Ward 6/10

No spoilers but this theme has been done to death, if not done by Carpenter rating would be lower still.

The Muppets 9/10

This was a great family movie.

Tower Heist 7/10

It was not Stiller or Murphy's best but not bad.

Cabin in the Woods - 9/10; Joss Whedon wrote/directed this awesome film.

I thought it was "standard horror fare" until I saw what RT was giving it (usually I don't go by what they say, but their score was unavoidable), as well as what a couple people who saw it said about it.

Go see it while it's in theaters; my favorite movie in theaters, so far this year. Recommended.

It is NOT what you think it is.
