No but,
why the f cant these companies just leave out a little of the sugar, in 2004 Coke had a 50% less sugar version of coke it was pretty good, heard of a possible return. I could barely tell the difference.
but I have basically stopped drinking soda i have less than 3 a month and I try very hard not to drink nutrasweet (apsartame)
I believe some of these large companies get their stuff pushed through testing too quickly and lets not get into genetically modified ****, They wont even allow it to be sold in most countries.
one 20 oz coke has 65 grams of sugar
one 12 oz coke has 39 grams of sugar
Have you seen the enormous quantity of "dimensionally challenged" people in the country? These people are too stupid to make decisions on their own. They don't eat, they freakin' graze... all day, probably into the night. If you are overweight, you should be barred from going into all you can eat places. It's disgusting. You know how they have those luggage size things you can put you carry on bags into to make sure they are not oversized? They should have airline seats set up as well. If you can't fits, you can't sits.
Well, NY went and passed the law prohibiting 16oz drinks.
It's disgusting. This is not the America I grew up in. It's become a place where freedoms are taken away daily.
And by the way, a lot of scientists don't agree with this. You can have a 30oz drink. Maybe not everyday, but one or so a week isn't that bad for you.
It certainly isn't the cause for obesity. A lot of obesity is genetics. And you say well there are just so many overweight people then when I was younger. Well, the population in your area (if it's like mine) has grown about 100 times what it was and you are going to have this. I'm not saying that certain habits don't make you gain weight, but this law is flat out ridiculous.
I'm just glad I live in a state that won't take this freedom away. I remember not so long ago they wanted to take away what shows we can watch on tv.
Freedom. It's a slippery slope. One day's it's here and the next it's gone.
Nothing stopping you from buying 3, 8 ounce drinks is there?
I don't know how old you are, but for me, 52, this too isn't the America I grew up in. There were smarter people, less fat, less stupid people when I was growing up. People had common sense. People also didn't sue for every little thing. You didn't have warnings on coffee cups saying, "Caution: Contents may be hot."

This is exactly how I feel (and I'm 37). When I was growing up s*%t happened. You fell over, you dealt with it, accidents happen. But not any more. Now it's got to be someone's fault and they must pay you compensation.
The world has become a lazy, fat, greedy place!
Anyone seen Wall-e? The way that the humans on the spaceship were portrayed were not supposed to be inspirational but that's how it feels sometimes - like huge numbers of people out there would actually like things to be that way.
I personally do not think that able bodied people should be allowed to use lifts(elevators) if they are only going up a single floor or two. I've seen people stand waiting for a lift for longer than it would have taken them to walk up the stairs.
So they put a ban on huge drink sizes. Boohoo! What the government has done hasn't taken away your right to drink as much as you want, it's just stopped the large corporations playing on this and started to make people think about what they are doing.
Humans are psychologically inclined to say yes if they think that something is a bargain and businesses play on this. How often do supermarkets use the one for £1.20 or two for £2.00 deals? Your mind says "They cost £1.20 each but by buying two I'm saving £0.40". What your mind doesn't do is go through the proper thought processes of "If I needed two then I'd have two on my shopping list so I'm actually spending £0.80 more than I really need to here".
The same with sales - 'Was £250, now only £175!'. Your mind says "I'm saving £75" but if you don't need that item then you're actually spending £175 that you didn't really need to.
It's the same principal with fast food places. It's easy to say "Yes" when asked if you want to supersize your order for an extra 50p - you mind says "more for very little extra money" and thinks of it as a positive without making any considerations as to whether you actually need or really wanted that extra amount. You have to make a conscious decision including going through a proper thought process to order two smaller drinks, which is what the government is trying to make you do.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber barons cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis
Personally, I find the people who advocate this sort of nanny-statism absolutely abhorrent. It's the exact opposite of personal freedom.
It's a ridiculous law. Let's say someone at McDonalds wanted a 30oz unsweetened ICED TEA which by all means is a drink good for you. They can't let you have the cup? Or if they do, how do they know someone will put one sugar packet in it or 50?
It's ridiculous. It's not the reason for obesity at all.
Where does this type of law end? Are people going to start legislating what and how much you eat? You get arrested if your good cholesterol is too low?
The next law will state everyone must drink 8 cups or glasses of water a day. Because they haven't done the research that scientist have already debunked this as being of no advantage to you
Oh and they served 30oz drinks 30 years ago and it wasn't a problem then.
What I think is a big issue causing some obesity is the fact that people aren't sleeping enough and they are eating too late, etc. A healthy body needs to eat on a schedule so that it knows when to use food for energy and for fat.
You can't eat a burrito at 9pm and go to bed at 10pm. The body stores it as fat. And when you don't sleep enough the body starts to transform food in a similar manner.
Kids today don't get enough sleep. Schools start way earlier. The homework and project demands are incredible. This in turn leads to less activity (along with other distractions)
