Do you believe in God & if so, do you think He/She is for or against gay marriage?
I bring this up due to the Chick-Fil-A controversy (which we have covered elsewhere in this section, so please stay on track). Chick-Fil-A uses God to defend their position against gay marriage by funding lobbyists to convince Washington to define marriage as only between a man & a woman.
I think their position opens up us to a good conversation concerning this subject. I'm going to post a poll & will keep it anonymous as many don't want to say how they feel, but might feel comfortable voting & for those that have no problem posting, let's read your thoughts!
I guess I'll start. I was raised Roman Catholic and attended Catholic school for 11 years (1-8 & Sophomore to Senior). The biggest thing I got out of all those years of religious education and (being forced) to go to Church every Sunday as a kid was something Jesus says in the New Testament:
"I give you a new commandment: Love each other as I have loved you."
To me that encompasses everything it means to be Christian. There are plenty of folks I dislike and sometimes even want karma to bite their a$$, but my failings in that regard always remind me that I'm not a perfect Christian and that I know God would want me to be a better person. Hopefully as I grow older, I'll get better at the loving everyone and forgiving everyone thing. At least I have a goal, I guess?
All that being said, it should come to no surprise that I don't think God has an issue with gays marrying. I'd like to think He'd be more concerned with a gay couple not respecting or treating each other right.
I dunno. I'm not a quote Bible passages guy. I think folks who have to do that just aren't getting the point of what they are reading. I also think they memorize these passages so they can use them to defend their stances or further their positions. Not Christian-like to me, but definitely more...human.
My other thought is that IF there is a God, He/She created everything. He/She is omnipotent. Why would He/She give a rat's a$$ what people do in the bedroom? I mean, really...
He/she? I'm assuming you are referring to the Judeo-Christian God since this poll was spawned by your previous thread. The law of Moses from the old testament says that for a man to lay with another man as he would a woman is an abomination. That's what the Bible says and the Bible is the word of God. He tells us what he thinks so what does it matter what we think he thinks?
Those aren't my beliefs, but if you believe in the Bible than there really isn't much wiggle room on the subject. Even if some Christians support gay marriage, it doesn't change what the Bible says.
This poll is akin to asking if I think Mr. Cathy has a problem with gay marriage - we already know the answer to that too.
I'll leave you with this final thought...a quote from Martin Luther King Jr.:
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
Edit: I totally agree with your last statement, but "God" didn't ask my opinion when he was making his dos and don'ts list.

When these debates are brought up, Yahweh is rarely a factor. Christians (by definition) usually use Jesus (the whole Christ in Christian thing) to persuade folks to their point of view.
Nobody knows except God, if he objects to gay marriage. To answer that question is assuming that he or she has a direct link to him. For ME I do not agree to it, same as I do not agree to Divorce and Annulment.
I do not believe in any God/s , and have serious issues with those who have a problem with anybodies pusuit of happiness. Gay, Straight, black,White, (just a few examples) we should all have the same oppertunity for happiness.
But on the same note, we all have the right to be, ignorrant as well so to each their own. I just have a problem with people who stand against something that has nothing to do with them, and doesn't hurt them in any way.
GOD created ADAM and EVE. Man and a woman. NO IN BETWEEN! In the eyes of the people, (LAW) in most countries. GAY MARRIAGE IS WRONG ALREADY... Its not "TO EACH THEIR OWN" u cannot say this if you believe in the BIBLE, to GOD and his only son JESUS CHRIST!

I was raised Catholic, but not what you would call a true follower of the faith.
I do believe in something like a God I guess. I hope there is something out there
But I do not hold Religions in high regard. It is to easy to "bend" a religion into what you or the person next to you wants it or believes it to be.
I would like to think God loves everyone, no matter what, and that includes gay marriage.
I am not going to criticize anyone for what or how they believe, we all need to do what we need to do to make our lives better.
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”
—Genesis 1:27 (NKJV)
“And the LORD God said, ‘It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.’ Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said: ‘This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.’ Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.”
—Genesis 2:18-25 (NKJV)
The image of God is both male and female and is reflected in a godly union between male and female where the creative power of God, His life-giving, His self-giving and His moral nature are perfectly expressed. This is only possible in a heterosexual union.
When God created a partner for Adam He created Eve—not another Adam. This means that perfect partnership requires some level of difference as well as a level of similarity so great that Adam could cry out loudly, ”This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh”. Sexual intimacy between a man and a woman is the normal method of male/female bonding (emotionally and physically) because it corresponds to the design of our bodies and because it is the normal means by which offspring are created.
If God had intended the human race to be fulfilled through both heterosexual and homosexual marriage, He would have designed our bodies to allow reproduction through both means and made both means of sexual intercourse healthy and natural. Homosexual anal intercourse carries a high risk of disease, this is recognized in Scripture where gay men are said to receive in their bodies the due penalty for their error (Romans 1:27).
It's quite funny that someone who has named himself "MutantXavier" - after a character who is a Mutant (an affront to humanity/an abomination in the eyes of God/etc..) and also a character who dedicates his life to breaking down the barriers between blacks/whites/men/women/humans/mutants/anyone who is different - is so against everything that the character is about.
This is not in any way a go at MutantXavier - I believe that everyone has a right to their beliefs - I just found it kind of ironic.
