So let me get this straight, Colossus is the Juggernaut + a Phoenix?!! That's just a tiny bit overpowered isn't it?
I don't think he's the Juggernaut anymore. If you notice, he isn't bald anymore, he's back to regular Colossus hair. Now, not sure if that exactly means anything, but I hope it does! Maybe when the Phoenix took over him, it kicked Juggs to the curb.
I just ready Avengers vs X-Men Round 6 this weekend, and I have to say that this was one of the best single-issues of a book I have read from Marvel in a long time, IMHO. A nice jump ahead from the Pheonix 5 being introduced, i.e. not boring us with a minute-by-minute story of what they were going to do, but rather jump ahead a week and show what they already had accomplished.
With the MU crossovers of late (Civil War/Seige/Fear Itself/etc), I've bought and read most books in the supporting series with minimal enjoyment, but the AvX series has been much better, I think. Then this issue took it to another level altogether. The writers have gone way above "standard" on the story, but really putting a positive spin on Mutants and showing that Cyclops and crew are trying to make a better planet for all - we will see how this pans out in Act 2.
I was just really impressed with the story and the thought that seemed to have gone into it.
This issue is drawn by Olivier Coipel and written by Jonathan Hickman. It's also extra length at no additional cost.
- The issue begins with Professor X and Magneto conversing in the new Utopia. Coipel renders the panels breathtakingly as Utopia looks heaven like. Professor X discusses with Cyclops the actions of the Phoenix 5. Cyclops tells Professor X to not fear the future. The next panels show the Phoenix 5 in different parts of the world terraforming the heck out of everything. Cyclops tells Professor X that his dream has been fulfilled.
- Two days later in the Avengers tower, Captain America is discussing with Iron Fist on a monitor. Iron Fist briefs Captain America on how he and some Avengers were overwhelmed by the "Electric Legion". Iron Fist tells Cap about how Phoenix-Colossus showed up and saved the Avengers by simply talking to these electrical entities into becoming free power for a large part of Eastern Europe.
- The Avengers (Black Panther, Iron Man, Wolverine, Hank Pym and Captain America) are meeting and analyzing the Phoenix's trajectory when it approached the Earth (before the battle on the moon). Captain America asks Beast to give him a plan on how to deal with the Phoenix 5. Beast gets pissed and asks why they even have to think of stopping the X-men since they're doing good. Beast walks out on them and tells Wolverine that they will soon have no place to call home.
- Back in Utopia, Cyclops and Hope are having a discussion. Cyclops tells Hope that Utopia isn't a prison and that she can leave if she wants but the girls says the Phoenix is still calling to her. Cyclops asks Hope if she would accept the PF now because she refused it before, Hope says yes but Scott rebukes her that she does not deserve. Cyclops chastises her that she's a child and could not possibly have used the power well, Hope let's Scott know that the PF wants to burn hotter and brighter because the Phoenix 5 haven't done enough. Cyclops says that there is still a lot to do.
- The next pages feature the Phoenix 5 in action. Magick is destroying some army tanks and vehicles, Emma Frost is destroying Sentinels, Colossus is destroying missiles (probably nukes) and Namor is destroying some battleships and splitting the ocean wide at the same time.
- In K'un L'un, Lei Kung is talking to some old man and asks for the book of the fallen. The old man talks about a very bad burning cycle and how this happened before. That the fire will cleanse the field, extinguish the old and make way for the new. He talks about two equally charged souls repelling each other. The book mentions Fong Ji and how she repelled the Phoenix of life and death and prevented the Celestial collapse of the Earth. The old man tells Lei Kung that he needs the Iron Fist.
- Three days later in the White House, Captain America, Iron Man and Black Panther are talking with a U.S official. The official is pissed off how the Phoenix 5 have gotten everyone worried and Iron man and Captain America are trying to reason with the man. Black Panther cuts into the discussion and rejects the notion that the 5 have declared themselves anything. T'Challa confirms that the P5 simply said that there will be no more war between any one on the Earth anymore, Pax Utopia. The President says that mankind should be allowed to determine their way and that the X-men are no longer accountable.
-Elsewhere. Scarlet Witch has a vision of the original Avengers (Ant Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America and Iron Man) being burned to ashes by the Phoenix and she says this is what comes next.
- The Avengers concoct a plan to capture Hope from Utopia. Iron Man says they need Hope to understand the Phoenix Force. Iron Man has built some suits for the Avengers to wear because there's no way they could face even one of the P5. Black Panther refuses to join as a head of state of a sovereign nation (not to mention the fact that he seems to support what the P5 are doing). The Avengers drop into Utopia and and Thor grabs Hope. Scott and Emma Phoenix up and blast the Avengers away. Scott notes (rightfully so) that the Avengers behavior is becoming embarrassing.
- Cyclops optic blasts the rest of the Avengers away and it's only Iron and Thor standing. Cyclops telepathically removes Starks armor but Thor warns Scott to stand aside or he will call the storm and tear open the sky.
- Thor tries to attack Cyclops, Cyclops telepathically stops Thor's hand in the air and tells the thunder god that he's life and death and he doesn't fear a little lightning. Cyclops optic blasts the heck out of Thor. Emma notes that there is chaos in the air.
- The Scarlet Witch appears and tells Scott that all the madness must stop. Scott notes that the Avengers attacked them and Wanda tells him she's taking them with her. Hope says she wants to go too. Scott says no but Hope reminds him that he said that Utopia was not a prison. Scott holds Wanda's hand but he gets burnt.
- Scarlet Witch teleports the Avengers away. Scott's pissed off that despite making the world a better place and despite the power they have, they are still feared and hunted. Scott says he will tolerate it no longer. Holding Captain America's mask he says it all changes now, no more Avengers.
Art- 10/10. Coipel is one of the best in the business. Period.
Story- 9/10. This is one of the best issues of AVX thus far.

I have to agree. This issue was spectacular. I'm really liking where this story is going and I hope the effects of it continue past the miniseries.
On a related note, where's Cable? Why were the events of X-sanction not mention in this story. I thought the final act and revelation in that series was pretty epic and I thought it was a good lead in to this series, but there has been no mention of it. What gives?

yeah, the story was really fresh and had a whole "for the good of mankind" feel. I can't put my finger on it, but the writing was a home-run.
Good question about Cable. I can't remember how X-Sanction ended!!!!! Wasn't he back in the future to heal???
I only read Uncanny, and all the A vs. X issues have SUCKED! I have actually stopped reading them now. This kind of writing is making people dumber.
Marvel, please make it stop. Please do SOMETHING. Please safe my beloved characters and please stop pissing on everything that I love about superheroes.
OOMMMGGG! I just read the last issue of AvX and I am pumped! It was a great finale! And you all need to read it already so we can discuss it!!!
Spoilers for those who haven't read it-
I was worried the whole time Scott was going to be killed somehow, but thankfully that was avoided. Instead it looks like he's now the enemy of the state, along with the other Phoenix 5, and Magneto. Although I'm not really sure why Magneto is wanted. And seeing Hope as the White Phoenix was awesome! Althought I have to say, I'm upset about the "No more Phoenix" bit. I can't bear to think that we'll never see the Phoenix again since Wanda vanished it out of existence. How about "No more Scarlet Witch," bitch is always messing things up. And... While it was just a silhouette, it was nice to see Jean for that ever-so-brief moment. Although I'm still annoyed she wasn't revived during this whole AvX saga. And, as I was previously confused/unsure, it's crystal clear that Cyke did kill Xavier. Man, I wonder what the aftermath of all this is gonna look like!
