Default Iron Man Silver Centurion by Bob Layton

Iron Man Silver Centurion by Bob Layton Commission

I went to a Creation Comic Convention in Philadelphia when I was a kid. Bob Layton did the program cover, featuring Classic Iron Man. Many years later, Bob did this commission of the Silver Centurian Armor based off that image that had thrilled me as a young lad!

It may be corny, but for me, it was a dream come true! Bob's work has meant so much to me throughout my life and to actually own this piece, makes me feel very lucky!

But, wait...things don't end there! Another creative juggernaut, whose work I love: Randy Bowen, has produced this piece from a digital sculpt by Khurram Alavi:

Bowen Designs Iron Man Silver Centurian Statue

This is a fantastic piece! To find out more about it, check out this thread:
Bowen Silver Centurian

I can't wait to display this piece with Bob's original art!

Al this is such a great turn out for you man, i think its really cool how you ended up getting the statue you only dreamed of. After reading your story of Bob's commission piece he did for you, and seeing this statue come to life and exactly like the drawing, its just great. Randy sure must like you.

Haha! I don't think he basis business decisions on liking anyone. He produces things because he thinks they will sell. I'm just glad he liked the pose!

Nothing corny about it. For me - Bob Layton is and always will be synonymous with the iconic Iron Man look.

RIP, Kirk (aka Ace). You will be missed, brother.

That's awesone! I met him in Long Beach this year :-) . He was real nice dude , real lay back . He was working on a drawing for fun of a Half IM, half Tony Stark looked real cool. May consider doing a IM vs Megaman :-) from him :+-)

Centurion: an officer rank in the Roman army.

Centurian: as common a spelling mistake as Doc Sampson.

As far as I recall, Marvel has never called it the Silver Centurion armor in print.

I thank you for the correction as I do hate spelling things wrong!

I'll never forget the first time I saw this armor in the second limited series of West Coast Avengers 1. As he was still wearing the red and gold in the pages of Iron Man at the time, I was more than a little confused.

This is the armor that began the Iron Man fashion show.

I remember the armor appearing in West Coast Avengers #1 the regular series before it had even debuted in Iron Man #200. Wasn't there only one WCAs mini series? Rhodey was wearing the Classic Armor in that one.

You are correct.

The WCA #1 where the armor first appears was the start of the ongoing series.
