Detolf Shelf Space
Okay I tried the idea that ll68 had on the other forum, and it worked out very well.
I went to a glass/mirror place here in Toledo, and the cut smaller shelves for me out of 3/16 glass. They are the same thickness as the detolf shelves, they are not tempered, but they are strong/sturdy.
$5.57 per shelf (cut and smoothed edges)

ok...so I have searched and searched all over the web for a company to buy display cases from at a WHOLESALE price.....even self assembly.....
I spent two hours one night googliating and to my surprise I found a place right in my hometown of houston.....although since we have the port of houston, it makes sense...
they have trophy cases for $400-$500......not bad at all.....
http://www.buystoreshelving.com/display_cases/
even with shipping it might be a good deal for someone....

I like mine behind glass to keep down the dust and to protect them a little more from elements and possible unwanted touching (that sounded odd).....
I do, however have a question and need some direction with lighting.....
I have one showcase now that has flourescent lighting, but I never turn it on but for maybe a minute or two max if I'm moving something around or adding a new piece.
I really don't want them to fade from lighting.....I do want to change the lighting out in that case, but also am going to buy more in the future.....
what type of lighting is best?? Is there a type of lighting I can leave on for a longer period that is friendlier to the preservation of my statues??
PLEASE HELP!! RANDY.....Your thoughts???

The best, and cheap display case I have found is the Ikea Detolf. I comes lighting-ready, and they sell the lights seperately. For $60, you can't beat it and it has all glass sides and glass shelves. Most of the pictures of peoples collections show at least one of these cases. Here's the link.... IKEA | Cabinets & sideboards | Display cabinets | DETOLF | Glass-door cabinet
P.S. For some unfortunate reason, Ikea does not ship these cases. They are only available in the stores. If you don't have a store near you, search on Ebay for the "Ikea Detolf." I've seen people selling these on there before. You may pay a little more, but they are well worth it!

Anyone have some type of stands for their Detolfs? I was wondering about buying an IKEA LACK and laying it down sideways, then putting the Detolfs on top of it.

I actually have this exact set up and i think it looks great. it rises the detolfs to perfect level so that the bottom shelves are perfectly viewable. i can post some pics if you'd like.

I have my detolfs lightup with Ikea leds. I think they are a great solution, long lasting, low energy and low heat.

I also have some shelves that I bought at the container store and I used the acrylic cases I have to keep the dust out. Again I am using the leds available at Ikea.

I used the Docent (not available anymore) with glass doors and same leds lights. You can see both types here.
