I'll probably go see it in two weeks, when I'm back. I didn't care much for Raimi's Spider-Man (The first was "meh!" and then it was all downhill from there), so I'm hoping this will fare better.
Not really a fan of the superhero movies. I liked Tim Burtons two Batman films and Richard Donners two Superman films. And Iron Man.
But I'll go see this. Looking forward to it as I love Emma Stones acting. The Lizard is a weird choice as a villain and from what the trailer shows, his looks SUCKS, but I want let that get me down :-)
I know a lot of Comic book fans didn’t really like the new spider-man movie, but I really enjoyed it. For those who expect comic movies to be so close to the material, you will always be disappointed with what Hollywood gives you. You cannot expect every comic movie to be 100% to the source material since they want to offer fans and new audiences something they can both enjoy and it is a fine line.
Ok so here is the bad, in every Spider-man incarnation, he always lives by the motto, “With great power, comes great responsibility.” That was disappointing that they left that out of the movie. Yes Gwen Stacy and the Lizard could have used more character development, at least 20 or so minutes added to the movie for this? Also, since they did not do much of this, they didn’t show how Gwen and Peter matched on an Intelligence level seeing as they are both science geeks. Yes it was kind of bad that too many people find out who spider-man is by the end of the movie.
Andrew Garfield actually did an impressive job on hitting the characteristics of Peter Parker/Spider-man, that the original spider-man movie did not capture. Recently having read some of the first several issues of amazing spider-man, Peter parker is an emotional person and Spidey is very sarcastic and witty, I think Andrew was able to get these things down pretty well. Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield do have really good chemistry together, in the next movie they just need to make her smarter. As the movie wanted a more realistic approach It was good that Peter reveals himself to Gwen, I mean what teenager can keep a secret? Also Aunt May can’t be that dumb not to realize why Peter is coming home all beat up, just while spider-man was out fighting.
Overall it was a bumpy start to a new Spider-man series, non spider-man fans I went with all loved it, I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next movies, this one was 3 stars.
it was ok, kept me watching because I did not know what was going to happen, because a lot is changed in the movie. I thought spider-man was too tall. I think spider-man is suppose to me only 5'10", he leaned over a lot but he was still 6 feet tall. Like was stated before he was nice and skinny and lots of agility and wise cracks.
Just got home from seeing it. I LOVED the movie! I enjoeyed the subtle changes to the mythology, still kept the essence which was great. I got over the slight costume adjustments cos when he's moving around so fast all I see is red and blue which is what I want. The Spidey mask was awesome. The quips and humor is total spidey and thankfully isn't like the Raimi/Tobey movies where all I wanted to do was slit my wrists cos it was so depressing and Tobey sure didn't have Spider-man down imo, he was a very somber and depressing Spidey.
Andrew Garfield is the best Spidey by far, and him and Emma Stone as Gwen were just spectacular together. It was beautifully shot and the choreography was right outta the comics. I think they captured the essence of Spidey was more than any of the previous movies. I'll be sure to go watch it at least twice more at the movies and can't wait to buy it on Blu Ray.
Till then, tomorrow I'm buying the xbox game
Cannot wait for the next one.
Choked up at the end watching Peter and Gwen, some tears. I liked Gwen, and Sally Field, but I will take Rosemary Harris any day of the week. Martin Sheen, leave him in the White House-West Wing. BTW where is MJ? I know the story!
I saw the movie a week ago at a preview and walked out extemely disappointed. Now having seen it a second time and over my initial disappointment, I would rate it a good ordinary film. I agree with many of the gripes such as changing the origin, the burglar, the snoutless lizard, and I didn't care much for the overall casting (though Emma is always good). I felt the movie was a little too bleak for too long and there wasn't the Spidey magic I was expecting. But I am an older viewer and no doubt the movie will go over well with the younger demographic. Kinda hoping the villain at the end was Mysterio (with the appearing and disappearing thing happening) but since the studios have a habit of tweaking the characters, it could be anybody.
I finally saw it last night and really enjoyed it. I will say this, Andrew Garfield is SOOOOOO much better than Toby McGuire (who I didn't really like from the start on the original trilogy). His insecure teenage boy take on Peter Parker was very well done, and I liked they didn't overhype him being a genious (although a little more of that story would have been nice). Emma Stone was really good as well.
As for some of the complaints about "origin" issues, sorry but by now, everyone should know that Hollywood can't/doesn't follow it to the letter. Sorry, but it's the truth and after more than a decade of these movies, this is a lame complaint, seeing NOT ONE movie has followed to the letter. Sorry, but that's the way it works on a 2-hour movie versus hundreds of issues of a comic!
I'm gonna try to keep this brief which is a real chore for me.
- Really like Garfield as Peter Parker
- Loved the way they had Spidey moving and fighting - that is how I always envisioned it on film
- While they didn't say the exact line "With great power comes great responsibility" they definitely got the message in there when Uncle Ben said that people who can help others have the moral responsibility to do so.
- Beautifully shot
- I liked that they really fleshed out Peter. He was more believable to me.
For the negatives:
- I wanted MORE Spider-Man
- Why the heck did everyone have to know who Spider-Man was?
