Does that same reasoning apply when Bowen sells a real bronze statue that 99.9999% of its customers will never be able to afford?
I can understand not liking if they're producing items out of your (our) price range, but I just can't see it the way you're seeing it. I haven't seen an actual price listed, but it's a very nice statue, and I can see charging a premium for it.
Why did you go apples and oranges?
Real Bronze statue by Bowen is a REAL BRONZE STATUE. Could I afford one? Maybe not, but it's not the same as what SS is doing. Look at my comparisons and then tell me where it makes sense. Honestly, if this Galactus LOOKED worth it I might shell out around $750 if that's what SS charged. That being said, this is not a great looking interpretation of the character so I'll be passing anyway. My point has been why the huge "high end" price tag? Oddball mentioned this on a recent SS statue of a head and cloth on a horse that they want $1000 for. On top of that, their horrible paints as well as changing the look of statues drastically after solicitation after taking non-refundable deposits just continue what IMO is SS total lack of being in touch with the customers. When they announced the Legendary Scale Wolverine I was interested. Then I saw the price. I passed. That didn't bother me as much as what they're doing with this Galactus piece. To me it may be the start of bad things to come for the people that have supported SS with their collecting dollars for years.

i can't remember when bowen produced a new real bronze statue so maybe that wasn't a good comparison.
although galactus is a very nice statue, it will only attract a very small portion of the collector community to purchase, so i imagine the run will be very low. and all the problems associated will also follow this 'high end' collectible. i can see people getting a crappy paint job and manufacturing flaws that ss will say you can always return it for a refund. same old *hit, different price tag.

$799. Had Shane from Secret Compass hold it for me and he knocked off $70, great guy. 33 inches tall, due to be released Feb 2013. Too cool to pass on.

I just ordered. I hope I'm happy come February. This is my first Sideshow. Do they usually ship on time?
Yeah, I'm curious about Sideshow as well. I've never bought from them... can anybody provide a primer on what to expect (item quality, potential issues, shipping times, etc)? Some issues were alluded to above... if those could be expounded on, that would be great.
I'm very close to pre-ordering, but I'd like more info first.
you guys kidding? i'm already past sideshow and the only thing i order from them is hot toys sideshow exclusives. when i first started collecting in late 2004, i was into LOTR. sideshow was consistent, reasonably priced and their customer service was awesome. as sideshow started doing more licenses and started distributing a multitude of manufacturers, they started slipping. then the real problems started. manufacturing and paint problems, badly packaged shipping boxes, higher prices, overworked and underpaid customer service reps and bad character choices. i think the modern day timeline of fail came when ss did the 1:1 iron man bust. it was a huge price and racked with bad paint, scuffs, scratches and lights that didn't light. at that point, collectors like me that actually required getting what we paid for started jumping ship. now it's simply, hit or miss with their products. roll the dice...it's 50/50 that you'll be happy after the smoke clears. good luck.

The way to play it safe is to wait to see the final product. Of course it usually costs more to use that method.
As much as I love this statue, I'm passing. For one, it's too much money. Two, I'm SICK AND TIRED of buying a thousand versions of the same old faces!!!!! There must be twenty to thirty characters that I'm dying to have on display that I feel will never be made....atleast anytime soon or within the next 3 years....
I am fine with spending a little more then normal once in a blue moon, but it would have to be something fresh and extraordinary.
@Sash. I'm just getting frustrated with not having some of my favorite characters seeing the light of day yet is all. I do really like this version and I'm very happy for anyone who gets it but I know dam well with my luck, the second I buy this guy, low and behold The Stranger, a Celestial or some other badass cosmic who's never been touched yet will pop up and I'LL LOSE IT LOL
Bought him the minute he went up for PO.. no hesitation at all! Why? Because this statue represents practically everything why i'm into this hobby! He is just plain und pure awesomeness (and of course one of my favorite Marvel characters out of one of my favourite comic book series ever).
In my opinion, this gives the Bowen Galactus (and every other incarnation) a serious run for its money, in terms of looks, size and sheer Galactus'mness
About the issues with Sideshow - collecting since 2000, never had a problem except one: The paint chipping on the Psylocke PF just got me cold.. but these are things that can happen in 12 years (not saying they should, of course).
So...thats one very happy Sideshow customer over here
Congrats to the other buyers and cheers to everybody else
