Sorry to bitch, but I need to vent before I explode, and all my friends/co-workers would get lost at "comic statues... lolwut?"
Has anybody else run into a noticeable increase in people just outright flaking out on deals? Either on eBay or here? Either not following through as promised, or actually coming to a full agreement and just disappearing?
If I say, "I'll do X," then dammit I'm doing X unless something unavoidable comes up (like an amputation or a meteor). And even if that happens, I'm damn sure going to at least do you the courtesy of telling you that I can't follow through and apologizing profusely.
I've always encountered it on the internet, but it seems like I run into it just about every other deal now.
i hear ya man amatuers i call them thats why i ust buy from known online stores,like bbts,razors edge,etc,or ill stock up at a con ,just too many people tryin to pull a fast one or just a waste of time
I've been dealing with the same issue. I've had three boxes packed and labeled, ready to ship out to people who claimed to want them so bad and they all flaked on me. All seemed to be the same story: "I'll send payment later today" and then nothing... ok, I give it another day... still nothing. Then I sent emails and got no replies. Kind of a headache if you ask me. I'm not in a rush to sell anything, but I also feel it's unfair to me and other people that wanted the same items.
On the buying side I've gotten stiffed a couple times but thankfully not from anyone on this site. I understand that I pay first, then the merch is shipped. It's no different than any other online retailer. However, if that person is dishonest they could keep the money and not send the product. THAT is the only reason I ::gulp:: like eBay sometimes. The buyer protection plan is nice to have to avoid getting stiffed.
Sorry for venting too, but thanks for the opportunity ;-)
This happens almost everyday. I like ebay cuz you have a protection from people like that trying to get other people you know. Happens to me a couple of times. I packed everythng and ready to be shipped. But payments was still on hold for the longest time.
I checked the bst thread, so far everythng is good. I hope it stays like that.
i am guilty of not following through a couple of times here on SM on a proposed purchase, but people have also done the same to me here. i think people are more inclined to do that here because it's less formal. on ebay, i always follow through because i don't bid or BIN unless my intent is to buy. as far as selling, i require an immediate payment from the buyer on ebay. i may get less sales, but i have sold every item i've put up on ebay for the price i wanted. just have to be a bit more patient. apologies to the few i've not followed through on when discussing purchase.
Anybody noticed an uptick in unreliable folks?
