Default Prehistoric Scenes Project 2013

Begun in 2012 and continuing into 2013!
The Prehistoric Scenes Project!!!

The work continues. I started in 2012 and am back this year with more kits, customs and new ideas! Check back for updates!

I have every Aurora Prehistoric Scenes model from my childhood plus an number of new kits done by The Alchemy Works that I've started building. With my display case finally ready to give them a place of honor, I will start pulling the original kits out of storage and setting them up in the display. Also, I will be building and adding new kits throughout the year, including some spectacular kits like the Giant Sauropod, a massive kit that took more than a year to just get the injection molding complete!

Kit's that I will be displaying include -
  • Original T-Rex
  • Jungle Swamp
  • Dimetrodon
  • Allosaurus
  • Pteranadon
  • and many more!

Plus, the Alchemy Works kits I will be building and adding to the display include -
  • Iguanodon
  • Wholly Rhino
  • Trachodon
  • Giant Sauropod!

So, keep an eye on this thread and I will begin posting before the end of 2011 with a lot more to come in 2012! This is gonna be fun!!!!

Default Starting Off The Project - Tyrannosaurus Rex #1

Kicking it off with one of my all-time favorites - Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Tyrannousaurus Rex! At over 21 inches high and up to 30 inches long with his tail stretched out, this kit was one of my favorites as a kid. He takes his place of honor in my display. T-Rex #2 is going to join him very soon!

This was originally the Aurora orange/red but I hand-painted it. T-Rex #2 is still in it's original color. Coming soon.....

Default Kits To Be Built #1 - Iguanodon by Primeval Plastics

This is an amazing solid-resin kit that I'm going to build as part of the Prehistoric Scenes Project. Designed by Primeval Plastics and designed to go with the Aurora Prehistoric Scenes kits. About 13 inches tall when complete.

I'll be posting progress shots of him throughout the year....

For folks that don't know, if you were a kid in the early 70s, that Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Tyrannousaurus Rex was THE toy to get for Christmas! It is HUGE! It must be seen in person to appreciate just how cool it is!

Steve at Primeval Plastics is really talented. He is doing the Dire Wolf next and a Neanderthal Woman in the Spring. I am getting both of those. Plus the Alchemy Works is coming out with some options for the Giant Sauropod and some new custom kits.

I better get busy!!

Default Progress Shots - Stegosaurus

OK, so today's work was centered around making some progress on the Alchemy Works kit of one of my favorite dinosaurs, the Prehistoric Scenes Add-on Stegosaurus.

Doing this all by hand. No airbrush (yet). Trying out a new layering technique.

OK, so I've got four of the Prehistoric Scenes Triceratops models. Going to put them together in a formation near one of the T-Rex's.

And a few shots with lower lighting....

Can't wait until I start taking group shots.....

Your Stegosaurus is my favorite. Whatever technique you used, the color and the depth and texturing makes me feel like I'm looking at a 3-D picture!

Please continue posting your talent and creativity. Thank you.

Thanks for the compliments! I'm actually painting them by hand and using a multi-layering technique with paints that are applied and then partially removed to highlight the details. I thin each layer of paint before I apply it. Time consuming process that I'm still refining. But I think it works pretty well.

Default Stegosaurus Progress Shots - February 25 2012

Still focusing on the Stegosaurus kit from Alchemy Works. Now have more than 40 hours into it building and painting. Getting better with the layering and the dry brush techniques. Enjoy!

I'm probably another 40 hours from finishing this kit.

Default Alchemy Works Giant Sauropod Arrives!!!

OK, my dream kit is finally here. The Alchemy Works solicited a few of us to see if we were interested in a kit that was fantasized but never made by Aurora, the Giant Sauropod full size!!

This kit took over a year to be created and there are only ten of them that have been made in the entire world!

This will be one of my greatest kit projects ever!

It came with two types of heads so you can build whatever version you want.

Just for scale and to show how absolutely massive this kit is, here it is with the Aurora Triceratops I posted above in this thread.

And to really show the scale, here it is next to the Aurora T-Rex I posted at the beginning of this thread.

Truly an amazing piece of work and it's going to be a test of my skills to build and finish.
