BiG Apple Comic Con
Was at Big Apple Comic Con(yes will be at NY Comic Con next week as well) andI have to say it's underwhelming at best.
It's across the street from Penn station (live on LI) and not very well signed so it takes some asking to get there; I got the VIP pass but still had to wait on the same general enterance line to get in.
Basically, got into the coity by 3:30pm got on lineto get my pre-ordered ticket. The ticket processing took place at the same time (4:15) as everyone else; On top of that the OTHER guys go thtough fastrer cause everyone on the VIP line had a million questions!!!!
The show was broken out to 3 sections; top floor were the vendors; Middle floor were the stars (autographs ect...) and bottom floor the artist.
Summary:
I got through the vendor in under 1 hour.(Leisurely I might add)
I was ableto walk through the star area (Again, Leisurely) in under 20 mins.
The entire artist area was visible from where you walked in (really, walking through the areas without stopping would takeyoulike 5 minsif even that)
Signage was CRAP; unless you were told you did not even know there was a bottom floor.
Not sure you can decipher, but I have to say they did a horrible job with the show.
There were no major or minor companies at the show that would warrant your attendance.
Opinion: Big Fail; Would not attend ever again.
The VIP did get me 4 autographed lithos, but I'm really not into them.
Did get a limited edition Michael Turner Fathom comic, but not that impressed with that either.
I'm going back on Sunday to see what kind of deals I can get at the close of the show.
Oh, there were 3, yes, three(3) booths that sold statues. (BIG SUCK)
I should only give credit to two as they were the only one's that sold what we would follow on this site (Bowen/Sideshow/Koto ect...)
Bright Spot:
Yes Dorthy,the is an OZ
Meet Jeff Beckett from Shocker Toys
He does a line of action figure represeting mostly independent characters.
Met him at he bar at Lindy's in the hotel
He gave great insight into the action figure/statue business and I now have new found appreciation for the line of work.
Jeff could not have been a better guy and offered to help me out personally if I had any issues gaining acces to the show.
Kudos to him!
In summary, go for a day but don't bother with a 3 day pass or even the VIP ticket.
