Figured I would start a blog about my collection and the direction I am taking it.
Not to mention it gives me some nice down town while at lunch.
When I first got into collecting statues it was a very slow process. As a poor college student I couldnt really buy all that much so I would just look at the pretty statues and think to myself 'someday'.
Well, pretty soon I was a working man married to a working women who supported my collecting. Soon enough I was buying statues left and right and my wife was surprising me with loads of busts and statues for my birthday, Christmas, ect.. It seemed like every holiday was a statue holiday.
After several years of working I finally found myself out of work. At which time I had to cancel loads of statues and resolve myself to just 'looking' again.
It took about a month before I set foot in my dork cave as for awhile doing so made me depressed. But when I finally did, I saw my collection in a whole new light.
Looking at some of the statues I owned I had to ask myself, why did I buy that? Not that they didnt look cool, but they didnt have that 'extra' meaning behind it.
There was a time when every time a got a new statue or bust it was like a personal milestone. A goal that was finally reached.
So, I made the decision to sell off a good part of my collection and start anew.
My focus would be to buy those statues that I always wanted while I was in college but could never afford - heck, maybe even a bronze some day.
As I get a new statue etc. I will post a pic and explain why I bought the statue and how it fits in to what I already have. I will also post why I have sold certain items.
Feel free to comment at any time...this is an open forum after all
Joined the Bowen Designs Collectors club again today. I let my membership lapse and then re-instated it just recently.
I also placed the Mockingbird bust on order. It is a very good looking bust and think that it will fit in great with my current collection.
Wanted to pick up the Firestar bust but passed as I want to see it in person first. I love the idea of creating a 'Spiderman and His Amazing Friends' display some day...just not today.
Going to pick up a new display case today. I found one on Craigslist for $100 and couldnt pass it up. It is going to go on the 'Bowen' side of my room. I will post pics tonight.
Death statue by Bowen. Had to get her to go with Thanos. I missed out on this one while I was unemployed - Thanks Touch
Sold Emma - Image Deleted -
Emma by CS Moore. I am going to devote three cases+ to stuff by CS. Met him at Comic Con a few years back and was blown away by how nice he was. Decided I would start getting more (no pun intended) of his stuff. There is another Emma, two Black Cats, and a Wolverine that I still want to get. I know that he has done two Spider-Mans, but I am not a big fan of those.

Just talked over a bid to have a custom case done for me. It would be 30"x30"x16" made of black melamine with either hindge or sliding glass doors w. adjustable shelves. The price is about $500 (which is several statues), but it would be able to house all of my 'extra' busts with ease.
The plan is going to be to purchase two of these things before the end of the year. The reason for the size is that they would be able to fit perfectly behind the sectional couch we have in my room (the width is 60" and the height is 30"). They will have mirrored backs and would be lit with LED's.

You're not getting my Wolverine!!!!
Seriously though, the Moore Wolverine in the sewer diorama is one of my favorite statues. It's a great representation of that era's Wolverine and a clear connection to one of the all time greatest storylines in comic book history.

Don worry, I wouldnt want to take him from you
Should be getting some busts shortly from a fellow member and the 1st. Bowen Sandman statue some time this week.
David Mack's Kabuki Twins busts by CS Moore. Got these off of Ebay as well.
This is a double whammy for me. I met Mack at the Portland Comic Con and was again taken back by how nice a successful creator can be.
Where do you get those acrylic risers? I've seen them in a few other people's collections, but can't find them anywhere. I am currently using the 2"x2" and 3"x3" "U" shapped stands, but out of every dozen, probably only 2 are cut evenly. The rest are useless as they cause the bust to lean since once side is shorter/longer than the other.

Well, the riser in the background is an old iPod case
What I really like to use are the acrylic cases you use to store baseball cards in.
They are square, durable, and look just fine when used.
The laser creations U-Shaped risers can be a pain, but I plan on sanding down the ones that tilt.
The new base is wider and deeper then the old one. It is also shorter so it fits under the window.
Next I am going to line the base with older comic book covers and ad some LED lights.
This will most like happen MUCH later. Since it is a back load case I am probably going to fill it with Sideshow statues as the years progress.
This means that I am not going to add shelves to it as I originally thought. I am nervous that something that doesnt have a wide base (i.e. a bust) would tip over while moving the case for cleaning etc.

Got the Mole Man bust today. It is an A/P - but doesnt have a box. I will probably pick up another bust later and have the A/P finished in a Bronze look.
Also received the Bowen original Sandman statue today. This is a statue that I always wanted to get, but could never afford to buy.
But, thanks to the net and a seller in Texas I was able to finally pick one off. The box is a total mess, but I have an idea of how to remedy that. It also doesnt have the foam insert, so I will just have to make my own I think.
Regardless, I am happy to have him as part of my collection. Now I just need to find the bronze one!
As promised here are the pics of my latest statues -
First Sandman
Mole Man
While placing these guys I noticed that I need to do some major cleaning. Well, maybe not that major, but there was a lot of dust in my cases. Ah well, such is life when dealing with statues.
