PICS: Dark Horse Creature from the Black Lagoon Kit Painted by Randy Bowen
I'm sure most people know Randy Bowen as a great sculptor, but apparently he's no slouch when it comes to painting statues either.
I just found this resin Creature of the Black Lagoon statue listed on eBay sculpted by Chris Walas and painted by Randy Bowen.
The seller belives it may be a Dark Horse prototype (of a later-released model kit), since it is very similar to the kit but has small differences.
Randy certainly wore a lot of hats when he was with Dark Horse.
I'm thinking the numbering of 1/3 means Randy only painted 3 of these (or maybe just one with a 1/3 numbering on the bottom.) Either way it's got to be a pretty rare item. I'm sure RB doesn't find much time to paint any longer given all the sculpts he's always working on, but I found this example of his obvious prowess in a much different medium than he's known for to be extremely interesting to see.

It's a good possibility that I painted it. But I could not swear to it. I did paint many prototypes back in the day. I can tell you that the small sea fans on the base were remnants I found washed up on a beach at Tulum, Mexico while on vacation.
Thanks for the info! This looks like a very cool piece & The Creature from the Black Lagoon is my favorite Universal Monster! That must be why I love The Abomination so much!
Wow - you are quite the hunter Wayne..!! Nice score and a bit of history there...! Congrats!
Wish I had scored this Ken. I still might as this is a current eBay auction going on right now with 7 days to go.

Well you certainly fooled the seller of this piece Randy. He thinks they're fabric!

*Please note that the pink plants are just glued-on fabric-like pieces (not sculpted pieces).
