Default Update - Rest In Peace - My Best Girl - Molly

Hey folks! Saw the pictures of the other great pets and wanted to add some pictures of my dog. Her name is Molly and I have had her for 10 great years. We go everywhere together. Enjoy!

She's even the background on my phone!

Default Molly's Year - From Near Death to Recovery

So, I thought I'd take a minute and add some updated shots of my little girl, Molly. This dog holds such a special place in my life and I came really close to losing her last year too. Around September 2011, Molly stopped eating and got really lethargic. She started losing weight quickly. She was having a hard time standing up. After a day or so, I took her to the vet and they thought it was just a minor problem. They gave me some pills and sent me home with her and said call them next week. By Friday, she wasn't walking and I insisted we do emergency tests. Turns out she developed pancreatitis and was close to death. I rushed her to an emergency vet here in McLean and she spent the next three days in their intensive care unit.

By time she was released, she had lost more than 20 pounds. It's been touch and go, but here is what she looked like three weeks later....

But, we weren't out of the woods yet. She has spent the better part of the last year struggling to recover. She lost more weight going into the Fall...

By November, things started to look up and she had some life in her again.....

Winter was tough as she ended up in the hospital again with a relapse. But, she trooped on through it and still insisted on going to the park each weekend.

By Spring, she had recovered enough to play with her new cousin (named Tank) during Easter with the family....

Today, I'm happy to say that she seems fully recovered, even though at 12 years of age the vet says she will always have troubles and we have to manage her diet really close. But, I'm glad she made it through and cherish every day she's with me.

She looks great for 12! I have a 10 yr old male rottweiler with pancreatitis too. Are you on the enzyme that costs a small fortune?

No, we have moved her to a low fat diet. I cook all of her food. She is off commercial dog food of any kind. Plus I give her Canine Milk Thistle drops daily to help her functions. What is the name of the enzyme you are giving?

Butler Schein PancreaPowder Plus. It pre-digests the food making it easier to absorb the nutrients. It's about $130/140 per bottle but it is the only thing that works. I've tried what you are doing but he didn't put the weight on that he needed. I tried even a supplement designed for German Shepards which have a poor digestive tracts nowdays but that didn't work either. I feed him Earthborn Primitive which is a good all around food but again it can be pricy as well. In the end the joy of having the big ole lug far outweighs the costs. You should be commended, getting a large dog into 12 year mark is not an easy thing to do. Rottweilers have a study set up for ones that make it to 13 and older because it is so rare.

I asked my vet about the powder. He's not a fan of using them (for some reason). He thinks I'm doing better with her on my approach. It is a lot of work, but she's definitely worth it. Glad to hear your big guy is still with you. It's hard when they get old like this and you want them to be like when they were puppies. I'm like you, just glad she's still with me after all these years. I'm hoping to get her to 14 or 15 but we shall see. Good luck to you!

Default RIP - Molly - 10/24/2012

My best friend, my baby girl - Molly

I'm now alone. My little girl has gone. The grief is unreal. The pain is beyond anything I thought I would ever feel.

I kept my promise to give her a great life. She brought me joy and for a dozen years she made me happy. She gave me so much love and companionship. I can never thank her enough.

I'm signing off for a while folks. I'll be back. But I need to grieve.

Rest in peace Molly.

I know your pain all too well. I am devastated by your loss. It will get better for you, but you'll always have her with you and I believe you'll be re-united some day. Molly was lucky to have a human like you.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
