I really dont like Bendis, but I loved his Daredevil, as much as I hate to say it. So I'm definitely going to have to check this out - wondering how Maleev's art will work for SW though. Was perfect for a gritty, atmospheric DD book. I'm not sure Spider-Woman is that type of hero though.

Jessica Drew had Enemies and Allies in that first series ... that were @ home in the Darkness.
The Brothers Grimm
Werewolf by Night
Nekra
Hangman
The Shroud
Morgan Le Fay
Gypsy Moth
The Enforcer
Spider-Woman in that first volume was dark and gritty ... I hope the new series revisits some of those villains.
Ganglieri - THANKS for the recommendation. I love a lot of those villains, had no idea they were in the mix - perhaps Spider-Woman might be right up my alley. I'll probably pick up the Essential SW next week at the shop!

The first Volume of ESW (issues 1-25) are more offbeat - in the horror vein. (IMO first 15 issues are really fun).
The second volume is superheroine (70's style) stories.
You might also want to read Avengers 240 & 241 (1984) Guest-staring Spider-Woman, the Shroud and (the villainy of) Morgan Le Fay. It is not included in ESW vol. 2 and it wraps up Jessica Drew's story from the 1st series.
