Default Rob Liefeld Leaves DC Comics With The Zero Issues

Why am I not surprised....?

Rob Liefeld Leaves DC Comics With The Zero Issues | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Previously Rob Liefeld said that he would be leaving Grifter with issue 16, but that he’s be staying on Savage Hawkman into 2013.

Today, that all changed. Rob Liefeld announced on Twitter than he would be gone after September’s Zero issues. And he made it very clear it was his decision to leave all three of his books. And also that this the fourth time he’s tried to quit – but the first time that it has stuck. And promising that he’ll write all about it in a book one day..

He tweeted;

Just finished sending my thank you’s to DC personnel. Officially got off the DC52 treadmill this morning…

Scott Clark will be replacing me p. Deathstroke. Marat will continue the work on Grifter…I had a great time at DC.

I believe in what DC is doing, but had to preserve my sanity.

I walked off all 3 books. Can’t wait to see any attempts to spin. I have every email.

The 0′s are my last issues. Thanks for all the love.

This is the 4th time I quit in the last 4 months. This time it will stick.

I would put @Justin_Jordan on Deathstroke and Grifter. In a heartbeat.

Never thought the Image section of my book would be topped. This last year was a humdinger. The DC52 chapters will go top all of it.

Reasons are the same as everyone’s that you hear. I lasted a few months longer than I thought possible.

Massive indecision, last minute and I mean LAST minute changes that alter everything. Editor pissing contests… No thxnjs

Last week my editor said ” early on we had a lot of indie talent that weren’t used to re-writes and changes..made it hard”. Uh, no, it’s you

As to who is taking on Hawkman, Rob said;

No idea? Geoff Johns? Josh Fialkov? No idea..

These kind of complaints have been repeatedly expressed to me. It’s the reason Gail Simone walked off Firestorm, it’s the reason Paul Cornell walked off Stormwatch, it’s the reason John Rozum walked off Static Shock. And those are just the ones I’ve heard about.

However other creators have countered this explanation to me, saying “if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen”. However it has also been pointed out that different editors at DC can manage top down amendments and creator complaints better than others.

Rob Liefeld was hired by DC editor-in-chief Bob Harras to launch the DC New 52 with Hawk & Dove – when that book was cancelled, Rob moved over to write and draw Deathstroke, while also writing Grifter and Savage Hawkman, drawing them together into one storyline.

There were meant to be a lot of creator changes come January. Looks like some may have come sooner than others…

I won't judge Rob on this. Something tells me there is more to this story

Equal Opportunities. Not Equal Outcomes.

I agree.

Never been a huge Rob fan, but I think the New 52 was quite an undertaking by DC. While I think some things have panned out more have not. They took took a big risk rebooting the DCU, and I am sure there is a ton of pressure on everyone.

I agree. Also, it isn't the first complaint about the terrible editors screwing with stories.

Did you guys read the blog written by the Static Shock writer? I now believe the writers issues more than before. Rob says he saved the emails, so there is a bigger story IMO.
