It's not close dude.
In terms of comics based on sales from July 2012.

Marvel $9,846,498.48 about 39% of total sales for the month.
DC $8,366,810.95 about 33% of total sales for the month.

Comic Book Sales Figures for July 2012

In terms of the worldwide box office (non adjusted for inflation):

Marvel: approx. $10.8B
DC: approx. $5.3B

Marvel Comics Moviesat the Box Office - Box Office Mojo

DC Comics Moviesat the Box Office - Box Office Mojo

Have no idea where to look for data for the merchandising, but I will grant you that Marvel probably has over twice the product that DC has.

But it's not fan friendly - and I am guessing you buy off the web, right?

Ditto for me. A $20 trade sells for about $13.59 on amazon. If you're shopping in the right places, they're not that hard on the wallet.

Exactly - you have to shop online - which takes money and business away from LCS - making it very UN-fan friendly.

I am not blaming the consumer - you go where you pay the least - of course - no, I am blaming the company that continuously over charges their fans for merch - Marvel.

They charge double for trades, double for action figures, and a dollar more for most of the popular comics than DC. It's a shame people still think they are "fan friendly"

I don't see where the price factors in to being "fan" friendly. Marvel and DC are trying to run a business. If Marvel doesn't make a profit, then there is no Marvel. A Trade Paperback pretty much breaks even with the price of the comics. Would you rather be charged $20 (which I don't think is an outrageous price for 6 issues) or there be no comic company at all?

If you don't want something, there's a simple answer to that: don't buy it. Period, simple, case solved. But put the product out there so I have that option. DC, in a lot of cases, doesn't make the products we want available to even give us that option, hence not "fan friendly"

No, actually, I think the point is who is more succesful. And Punisher (all three) were bad. It's not up for discussion

I'll clarify, to catch up they need to put out quality and some quantity. I'm basically saying, with their stable of characters, we keep getting mediocre to terrible DC movies those two didn't help my confidence. All this, while Marvel stays at the front of people's minds good or bad.

DC has a great trilogy and Watchmen versus Catwoman, Superman Returns, Jonah Hex and GL. That's 50/50 in my book.

For example I mentioned Blade because, IMO, it showed Marvel these movies could make money. Minus a bootlegged unreleased FF movie, Marvel took an 8 year break from comic book movies.

Marvel:
Blade (1998)
X-Men
Blade II
Spider-Man
Daredevil
X2: X-Men United
Hulk
The Punisher (2004)
Spider-Man 2
Blade Trinity
Elektra
Fantastic Four
X-Men: The Last Stand
Ghost Rider
Spider-Man 3
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Iron Man
The Incredible Hulk
Punisher: War Zone
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Iron Man 2
Thor
X-Men: First Class
Captain America: The First Avenger
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
The Amazing Spider-Man

DC:
Steel (1997)
Catwoman(2004)
Batman Begins
Superman Returns
The Dark Knight
Watchmen
Jonah Hex
Green Lantern
The Dark Knight Rises

If we count Catwoman, DC has made 8 movies since 2004. Marvel has made 19 , 20 if you count the international Man-Thing release, in the same time frame. Since 1997 they have made 26(27). Of course some were crap, but their track record is well above 50% IMO. DC, for me, has been hit or miss. To be fair, DC/Warner Bros use one studio and Marvel doesn't own all of the movie rights to their characters. Still this goes to perception. Even if they don't own the movie rights, the average public non-nerd thinks it is all Marvel.

On the other hand, DC's tv/dvd animation department has been great and almost the exact opposite of Marvel. I have enjoyed almost every single DVD movie release for DC and Marvel is very hit or miss.

Cool lists, BUT, it's unfair. DC's BEST films were before this. Superman is still the best superhero film ever made.

But yeah, Marvel has been better at using their characters :-)

Again, cool list

Recently watched Green Lantern and Ghost Rider. GR was not epic, at least it was watchable. GL, freakin' agony to watch.
Man, I hate to be the one telling you this, but 80% of marvels characters are DC rip-offs.

While I thought Green Lantern was HORRIBLE, it was OSCAR Material compared to Ghost Rider. That was a monstrosity of a movie. I would rather be shot in the knee than seeing this film again. Green Lantern had ok effects and a so/so script. Ghost Riders effects are just laughable and the script is the worst thing written on paper - yet.

So, a huge win for DC here, but yeah, I guess Marvel has been the leader of the pact for a while and will stay in front.

If you don't see where price factors in in being fan friendly then it is pointless to have this discussion with you. If you feel the price is worth it - have a ball overpaying for comics and trades and being treated that way by a company that is, in your mind, fan friendly.
